Stella's Social Club

JUst got back from an early Thanksgiving with my sister and parents. My sister will be out of town for the real day so we just had it a little early. The food was so good. I bought a little 8 pound turkey from a local farm, free ranged without hormones, all organic. It was really good! I also made mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and bread pudding. My sister made yams and a gravy recipe from the internet called make-ahead gravy. You roast turkey wings and make the gravy from the drippings and stock. It was sooooooo good and it had been frozen for a couple of weeks. There are lots of copies of the recipe on the internet.

I wasn't happy with BobbyFlays recipe for pumpkin bread pudding. Too many strong spices and the texture was grainy. It was sort of ugly too.

But the sauces were delish! The spicy apple caramel and the creme anglaise were too good to waste. I went to Target this morning and bought a loaf of their apple fritter breakfast bread and came home and made another bread pudding using the apple bread. I just tasted it and realized I forgot to add sugar! It really doesn't need it with the sauces and the sweet bread though. I talked to my dad and they just had some with coffee and they thought it was great.

While making the dinner I put a big chicken in the oven along with the turkey and made extra sides so Michael and Cameron could have a nice dinner tonight too. They have had a rough day playing video games.

Hope everyone is having great weekend. Hang in there Cooper!

That looks so YUMMY!

That looks good Mary.
On a positive note.
I bought a dog run that I built today in the pouring rain. I attached it to the coop. tomorrow morning it will get stucco wire on top. stucco wire is galvanized 1 1/2 wide and much stronger than any poultry wire. with the stucco wire there will also be barbed wire that I actually had already.
then the chickens will be let out of the coop. tomorrow night I will put my 2 white empordanesa in with the penedesenca and what is left of my icelandics.

Here's my hard work for the day, not chicken related but I'm pretty pleased with it!

Birthday cakes for my sweet girls, Lydia turned 1 Oct 30 but we haven't had birthday dinner with hubby's family yet, and Hannah will be 5 on Wednesday. We will be enjoying chicken burritos and cake and ice cream with everyone tomorrow night!

Well, I've got my chicks out of the house (DW's orders) and into my Laree brooder outside. They seem to be doing fine... I went to Mesa yesterday on an errand and it was close to the Feed Barn there and I thought, I'll bet they have Purina Start and Grow there, and what do ya know, they did. Along with chicks, so I bought 6 to replace the ones that died....that will give me a better chance at having a 50/50 mix of males to females. I got a White Leghorn, 2 RIR, a Black Star a Buff Orpington and a Delaware.

YAY for the Delaware! I hope it is a pullet for ya! We don't have chicks at the feed store this time of year around here.

Darn. I was hoping that (pumpkin bread pudding) would be good. I wanted to try it.

Very very nice!

I got sick of dulce de leche in Ecuador. It was the most common thing for desert there. I imagine things have changed there after 30 years.
