Mary - If you want my dentist's number, just let me know. She's a great dentist. That sizzle is sorta cute - still not sure it's a chicken though. I have to admit, Ron (NorCal thread) posted a picture of a showgirl, and it is a cute little thing. But not cute enough to buy some on purpose.

Too many other "real" chickens I'd rather have.

Thanks Kelly, I am placing call #2 tomorrow morning to my dentist. If she still can't help or refer me I'll consider it. I can't believe I have to cook and deliver a Thanksgiving feast to my sister and parents on Saturday and can't eat. Michael picked up some fried rice for me tonight but I gave up after swallowing about three bites without being able to chew. I am heading to the store for yogurt right now. Will look for other things with some nutrition that don't require teeth.

On a happy note, we had 1890's grand piano that we bought for $500 on Craigslist tuned today. The tuner said we got a great deal that it is worth a lot more and is in really good condition.

Cooper, how small are your small runs? We are thinking about removing the netting over the runs at the house we are selling. Maybe the pieces would work for your smaller runs?

thank you Mary. my small one is 15 x 25 under a tree. I am using super clear 40lb trophy fish line 8" apart on all sides.
He is going to get in but wont get out.

I like the t post idea and also the netting like you have. My main run is over 125x100 so tough to net

Got my Ideal Poultry Crested st. run. DW had to work with me today so we didn't get the call. I got up late so I didn't call the PO. 6 of the 30 were dead. Oh well. I picked them up at about 1PM. They didn't bother to call the house until Noon. PO killed at least two or three in my opinion. They were thinking they would get dehydrated so they opened one of the holes and splashed in COLD WATER.

That bird wasn't a showgirl, it's a mix of some sort..................now this is a showgirl, my Earlene

Mary, for nutrition get the Ensure products, they used to have neat flavors like butter pecan, strawberry, chocolate etc. etc. I once had to have 3 a day plus whatever soft food ice cream, jello refrigerated puddings I could handle. It was heaven. Jello also has puddings called Temptations and Mousse - Mouse comes in sugar free, if that is a concern for you. Tastes great. If ice cream is too firm let it sit out awhile.

I've had various problems with teeth and jaw and bad, bad dentists - when I tell people I love ice cream etc. because you don't have to chew it - they think I am kidding It's filling and will keep you going till things get better. The yogurts have many kinds of flavored and fancy& low fat you don't have to be bored with plain yogurt.

Hope you find a good dentist who will right this mess.

Deb, wow that is a showgirl! Earlene is simply stunning! I may need some hatching eggs.

Diva, I can't do the Ensure products or any of those liquid things. They make me gag. Used to have to try them before giving them to dialysis patients. I practically hurl when I go down the Ensure aisle at the store. They were for medical use only in those days. I don't even like milkshakes. Yuck. Thank goodness I love Fage yogurt and always have it in the fridge. I bought sugar free tapioca pudding at the store. Bet it's yucky too.

I am making Bobby Flay's Pumpkin Bread Pudding with Spicy Caramel Apple Sauce and Vanilla Bean Creme Anglaise for Saturday dinner with my folks.



Three loaves of pumpkin bread are baking right now. Smells divine. I should have eaten the batter raw. No, that's disgusting.

I am just cranky and hurting so I should shut-up and go to bed after the bread comes out of the oven. I made an extra loaf to take to the neighbor who expressed worry about my having roosters. I would take him some eggs too but the only ones laying are the Isbars and I sell those for hatching! I called a meeting with Judge Judy and the Layers and explained to them the difference between a layer and a fryer. It fell on deaf ears. When Michael and I were choking down fried rice tonight I heard a commotion in the chicken yard. I took the flashlight out and found Skye and Cathy fighting over who got to sleep in the middle nest box!

I bought eggs tonight!

She is a sweetie too and started laying about a month ago. In that picture, she was only about 8 weeks old, she is REALLY fluffy now. I need to take an updated photo.

They come in every color that silkies have. They don't roost unless it is almost at ground level. They dog pile on the floor like chicks, but do it their whole life. They will climb a ladder or ramp, so if you give ladders to the roosts, they will use them. I have a white boy too, but I'm sending him off to a pet home. I also have more eggs set that may produce showgirls (you can get them or silkies out of the egg).

And perfect for you Mary, like all silkies, the queens of broodies

I've been asked by NOTAFARM how I put up my Monofilament line over a whole 1/3 acre orchard. I have an 8 foot wood fence around two sides of it. The big coop, which is about 50 feet wide including the roofed run, is on another side. 4 pear trees in a line make up the 4th side of the square with a 4' fence behind them.

In the middle of the square I put up a 10 foot tall piece of 2 1/2 inch PVC electrical conduit with a 3" eye bolt in the cap. I put screws to hold the 40lb. test line every foot on the covered run ends and side, and on the 2 sides of the 8'tall wood fence. Then strung wire 8 feet up between the pear trees to the fence, and to past the gate into the run.I attached more line to those wires to completely cover the area. It looks like a huge shiney maypole from the air, according to my neighbor pilot. He's promised me a photo, which I'll post. Just like this * the star key.

So far a big red tail female has landed in one of the pear trees not 25 feet from my husband. He said he could hear her muttering, "Nope, not a way in there. Not gonna risk MY wings !" He now thinks that this was a good idea too, but one heck of a lot of work. Just one more large area to finish covering for the other runs......

I do also have all my decideous Hydrangea bushes under the maypole covered in bird netting too, for added protection. Just in case....

Aaahhh.... I get it! My run is quite small compaired to your's (20' x 30' ) so I think this might work very easily!

he got through the line and got my icelandic hen. I contacted The Game Warden to ask if I could kill him.
I may try and tighten the lines I put up. it caught him for a minute but not long enough for me to get at him.
