It is her pollen sac on her back legs. They have one on each side and it's how they bring the pollen back to the hive. Just like saddlebags. Different pollens are different colors, so it can be an indication of what they are foraging on as well. I saw what appeared to be black pollen this weekend, and Mary thought it might be iris.
