Both are difficult. Dusty was around 4 years old. (I'd have to look up her exact date). I got her from Mary, who got her in the surprise package from kathy. (As revenge for Mary shipping her emu eggs)

My three original Stukel BR hens are all just over 4 years old themselves, with a daughter of one of them past three herself. That isn't very old, so it's even sadder you lost Dusty. My best broody is one of those BR hens, Dottie. She is an amazing mama. And then, I have two hens, sisters who are daughters of hatchery BR hens that are now going on 9 years old. One is still laying occasionally. You just never know how long they'll be with you. I hope my Dottie, more than any of the other BR hens, will be around for a very long time.

Yes, those were the days, miss all the excitement about incubating emu eggs, and videos - seemed like everyone had emus or wanted to have them. I think interest has diminished.

Sad but," ice cream" has been around forever and I expect it to stay that way.
