Kathy I was thinking about you today, I was trying to put a new tarp over the roof of a building yesterday and got stung by Hornets on my left middle finger and the back of my right hand near the thumb. My those hornet stings are painful! Not as bad though as getting stung in the face. The swelling is down today, but they still itch like crazy..

Yikes! :hugs

Ouch, for sure! What exactly are hornets good for anyway?
Hope it feels better now!

Sorry about your stings. Those things are nasty and not good for anything as far as I know.

In other news two more Del chicks hatched so that's three. I've had far to many broodies this year and not enough chicks hatched for the trouble.

I gave away or sold chicks early in spring as we went to TX for the arrival of the newest Princess. So if I had broodies they got either Dels or Marans. Fall should be fun trying to grow them out.

You sayin' something here?

I've never been stung by a hornet, it doesn't sound nice though. Hope the itching goes away soon.

I've gotten stung by a wasp many years ago. I wasn't bothering it in any way. One sting is probably the same as another. Also got stung by a tiny bee that flew into my shoe (how is THAT my fault). The little so and so packed a wallop.

What a little baby doll Rancher Hicks!

All stings are painful, but hornets pack a whallop - much more painful than a honeybee sting, that is sure. These ones were one of the paper wasp varieties, their nest was quite pretty - just in a bad spot.

Hornets are also pollinators, and help control parasitic bugs - http://insects.about.com/od/antsbeeswasps/f/What-Good-Are-Wasps.htm

I was chased quite a ways by a Bumble bee. Who would have thought they could see that well? As a rule i don't bother them but it was near a place I needed to work.

Too I had ground hornets I hit with the weed whacker. I sprayed but did little good. Strangely enough a skunk I presume rooted them out. I noticed the hole where they were was dug all up and they were gone. They build a nest in grass pile where I had dumped the bagged grass from mowing the lawn.

I toss scratch on my compost pile so I hope the chickens prevent them from setting up house there. I don't turn it as a rule.
