I though of that too but he didn't move to the layer coop with her. After she moved in, eggs started being eaten in that coop. There is still someone breaking eggs in the Isbar coop though so tonight I am moving someone else and see if I can figure out who it is.

Great picture Jasontoday was a Daddy daughter day. So we planted some Bamboo. Fargesia rufa Green Panda ( hardy to -30 ) gets 6 x 6 Yushania anceps ( hardy clumper that gets to 12 feet. Hardy to 0 ) Unkown Himalayan varigated running type next week we have my super rare Borinda Boliana ( Himalayan Blue ) tallest hardy clumper. Hardy to 0 can get to 45 feet plus another green panda and another yushania anceps and 3 black stripe timber. Thicker culm walls so it does not break under heavy wind or snow loads. The smaller ones bend down in the snow

I submitted the lemon meringue pie and Reuben pictures for my second week's assignment along with a Cookies and MIlk. Instructor critiques are due today.
CRITIQUE:
Hi Mary. Very nice styling on this one. The sandwich looks great!
I would love to see the light not quite so upfront/right but rather from 180 degrees in this case with a white reflector used at the location the key light is now. This will really help with the glare on the melted cheese and give you some nice shadows falling more forward. It also helps with the blown out spot on the white bowl in back. The framing is just a bit tight at the top but simply moving the camera back a few inches fixes that. The focus looks good up front but stopping down a tiny bit more would allow the meat inside the bitten area to be sharp as well.
CRITIQUE:
Very nice clean slice! Meringue can be tough to cut with such clean edges but these look great. Due to the height of the subject, a longer slice would keep it from looking so square if it were possible to do that. You would also end up with a thinner area up front to get some really nice back light shining through the translucent filling.
Again, the light is a bit far forward here. Moving it farther counter clockwise and positioning the slice so that you get light coming through the filling would be ideal. The lemons and coffee work well as props but the flower appear to be forced into place and pull the eyes away from the main subject especially since they are hanging in the plane of focus.

I submitted this photo to fulfill the requirement that we determine our style from a list. I think mine is a combination of homey and cozy. They both utilize rustic elements with color, although cozy uses more rich deep colors and darker shots. I love both styles and since I shoot in the basement and mostly in the evening, that works for me. For this shot I went to local wood salvage yard and bought several pieces of old blue, chipped paint siding. I laid them together to make a surface look like a weathered table. Amateur food photograhers like to use pieces of boards as they are easier to store than slabs or real tables. One blogger stores hers in a tall urn shaped basket and they become an art piece! I think our dear Miss Molly will recognize the potholder as one of a set she made for me at Christmas! I pity the fool who tries to use them as potholders in my house!
CRITIQUE:
The main light seems to be from behind here 12-1:00 rather than front left or "8:00". I do see a bright highlight on the milk that would correspond with light at 8:00 but that light source is not near as bright as the light from behind. If you could block out the front light, then you have the perfect key light position!
This is one of those times where I would really opt for a vertical due to the length of the plate and bottle. You have more space to work with at the top and bottom of the frame that way. I don't mind the cookie at the bottom but the top of the bottle is to close to the edge of the frame here. Another option if you want to stay horizontal would be to just back out a bit so you have a little more breathing room around the edges.

I will hate to see the class end in two weeks. I have enjoyed these classes so much. It will be time to take what I have learned and apply it to my blog posts and torturing Diva.
That is my real motivation.

I hope my instructor agrees. I just got this week's assignment and we will be working on composition, rule of thirds, etc. This should be fun.
Back home now after battling check out lanes in Walmart. See (but cannot taste or smell) Mary's cookies. Thoughts enter mind - not good ones. Diva feeling very tortured. 1 for Mary 0 for Diva.
