Kelly let me know how you like the Carnolians after you run them for a year. We've tried Russians and Italians, definitely prefer the Italians for productivity reasons. Russians are NOTICABLY calmer bees but WAY less honey, wasn't worth it to us. We got about 60 GALLONS of honey last year and expect to surpass that this year.

Wow, that's a lot of honey. Feel free to send me your surplus.

I assume you have your own extractor?

Yes, we invested in a hand crank 18 frame extractor and it is GREAT. We were going to upgrade it with a motor this year but I think it's going to have to wait until next year. This is our fourth year to do bees, and I think we may FINALLY be in the black this summer. It is an expensive hobby! But Lonny really enjoys it, and it's great to see the kids learning about it and not being afraid of bees.

Hmmmmm, I see a theme here.................LOL

And my response to my son having a streak of "I wants" was always........................."people in hell want ice water too". Now that is an old person response, LOL

15 chicks from MO arrived safe and sound and ready to go under a broody mama tonight. 14 Heritage Delawares and a Silver Laced Wyandotte... all drinking and eating and pooping in the Laree brooder.

Regarding the word want, my ex-husband had a particularly crude saying. If I ever said I wanted something, he would tell me to "sh!t in one hand and want in the other and see which one fills up first." Can you imagine me divorcing such a prince? Go figure.
