i already posted this in the NorCal thread, so pardon the overlap, but i thought there might be interest here too:
i found my first isbar/marans cross egg today! see if you can pick it out in the lineup below:

that's campine on the left, the two Amelias (CL x penedesenca) next, then the isbar/marans, then a marans on the right. wonderfully dark olive!

and interesting re: the Amelias, i had them in separate pens for a couple of days, and the one who looks more CL-like (light-colored neck/hackle feathers) has the almost-blue egg, and the one who looks more penedesenca-like (darker neck/hackle) has the olive-y egg. but the isbar/marans beats them both (although admittedly it's her first egg ever, so might get lighter over time)!
WOW gorgeous!

I think Tucker is molting too.

He needs more protein. And massage his crop because that sometimes becomes sluggish during a hard molt. And buy him a crocheted dog sweater because he must be cold, losing all that cover.

+1 -in fact, I had that for supper. We are dropping into the teens tonight here in the N. Ga. mtns. The winds are howling at 30-40 mph. Leaves are making walking here treacherous so when they are mostly all off (and it's close), then we'll have to rake and chop and whatever we can do to get them off the paths we walk to the coops. No more broken bones, please!
No more broken bones!

Wow, that is a gorgeous olive egg!

Very pretty eggs! I wish I would start getting some more eggs!
Me too! Most of my flock is molting and the juveniles haven't started up yet. The other day I got ONE egg.

I thought I'd start early this year:
Happy Thanksgiving!
So cute!

Sweet Potato Pie. Oh my.

Wow, that's too pretty to eat. Did you make the leaves?

No snow. It is cold. 16 degrees last night. Naturally all my waters are frozen almost an inch deep this morning. I have not had to use the warmmers and really do not like to. There is a chance of bacterial growth more so in warm water. Even when I use the vinegar. All my hens etc. seem to be taking it in stride better than me. We went for 40 degree nights to 17, yikes!!!!! The high today is suppose to be in the high 40's. I know some of you are use to this but not me. What do you do to combat the water problem???
