Ha! There is always one in the family, isn't there. My br.is telling everyone he promised my Dad to take care of my Mom. He wouldn't even cut her grass in the yard and he moved in with her. He is without a home. All he ever does is take her places. She cooks and washes for him etc. I do the rest. She is to have surgery soon and will be staying with me ; probably for a long time. I wish she had done like she had planned 4 yrs ago. Move in with me. We built our house with an extra big bedroom and closet just for her. Her living here would be easier for me to take care of her. She could have sold the house and had extra money instead of working last summer at 87 yrs. old. She would not let us help because he was there. Families can be wonderful and sad. We can not predict which.

That piece is going to end up with binding about 25" square, Jake. Now that you mention it, it does have rather a Celtic look to it.
I'm not sure where Bear Mtn is. Are you meaning somewhere near Cashiers, NC?
Yesterday morning I bought this. I took the doors off immediately because...........
They had these plastic things in the upper doors!
That was from the 60's I think.
By evening I turned it into this. I used a chalk based paint called Cast Iron with a matte finish topcoat. I am going to store napkins in it for my food photography.
I also bought this garage shelving. I forgot to take a pic before I started painting.
This piece was truly nasty with oil and paints rings from leaking cans, etc. I need some open shelving for all the dishes I use for my photography and I thought this would be perfect. I called Michael to bring the trailer to the junk store to pick them up for me. I think he thought I'd lost my mind.
It will be perfect when I get it done, a little rough around the edges but better than white formica in a 120 year old house!
I also bought this cool desk to use as a photography table. I am putting casters on it today and will paint it later. It has a nice big square surface to set up my shot and to the left is a lower place to put my iPad. I shoot tethered to my iPod and all the adjustments and even shooting the pic are done on the iPad without touching the camera. This will be perfect for that. I have had to hold the iPad standing up the entire time in the basement.
Those aren't raccoon tracks. Those are my fingerprints in the dust!
And I found this old secretary chair for $20 and cleaned up the metal and treated the vinyl and I LOVE it!
Mary, you find the neatest things. We don't have a whole lot of resale shops around where I live, love to stroll around in them though. Did pick up a loveseat at a St. Vincent Depaul store saturday, Dad does not have much comfortable seating and he has been having lots of his friends come by. It is sweet listening to them talk, he tells them all how much their friendship has meant to him and how much he has enjoyed their company.
We are so lucky to be spared the trauma of negative family drama. My sisters and I are united in giving Dad the best care and companionship we can, and in honoring his kindness and friendship with so many people. We got a handy neighbor to hang some brackets outside his window so that the birds will come right up to him. And his somewhat contrary cat has been curled up on his bed, oblivious to noise, strangers, my sister's dog, and even the birds outside the window - many of which normally would send her flying for cover.
Mary - where did you find my chair? I'm sitting on one just like it right now. (it was originally DH's chair) It's a heavy sucker. I love the corner cabinet! The shelving and desk will look great when you are done. Nice BCM eggs also.
