That pie pic is gorgeous Kathy!

I just found out that we have a quilt shop in town! They moved here last April from the little town up the road where Kelly lives. I spent a half hour in there the other day looking for the fabric for the front of the garage shelving I re-purposed. They have a beginner quilting class starting in May and I think I am going to sign up. I don't know if my arthritic hands are up for it, but I am going to try.

Good grief I am tired. My BCM rooster crowed from 2:00 a.m. on this morning. Even from the closed coop it was awful. Since I moved my bedroom back upstairs I can hear the crowing more. He has to go, hopeful tomorrow morning. I am going to call the feed store and see if they have a sale cage for him.

I am finally going to be using the last of the Meyer lemons I bought this morning to make lemon marmalade. If I put one more lemon dish in front of Michael, unless it is lemon bars, he is going to go off on me.

Not really, but I have explored the endless use of cooking with lemons lemon lately and it is time to move on! While trying to sleep this morning I had a sudden craving for spring rolls in rice wrappers so that may be the direction I go today.

Mary, they have those crafters gloves that do seem to help with my bad hands. They are really just stretchy synthetic things that keep the joints warmer as you quilt. You may already have some. If not, that would really be something to consider. My dad sent me some, among supports for my ankle, etc. He gets those catalogs with stuff like that. In December he gave me some rubbery things you stretch over your shoe soles that have four cleats to grip in ice/snow. I used those all the time this winter. I hope I never have to use them again-what a terrible winter it's been! Today will be almost 70*, then next week, the lows are back into the teens again. Sheesh.

I have been collecting inexpensive bird houses and hanging them around my porch since we moved here. I never expected to have birds in them I was just using the nails on every post since they were already there. A few weeks ago this little one took up residence.

wish me luck. I have to incubators going.
One is in lockedown. the other will be hatching next weekend
Good Luck!!!

Yesterday was National Cherry Pie Day. Did you know that? I did not know it at the time, but I just saw this picture. What a pretty pie! (We had cherry cobbler for dessert!)

This is amazing!! I think I would want to spray it with shellac and hang it on the wall if I made one LOL.

Poached Egg on Toast with Meyer Lemon Butter. I had this for breakfast and dinner today!

Beautiful photos. I have never had lemon butter.

Quote: Yes I am beginning to wish that Mary had mail order food! Delivery!!!!

Cherry pie is my favorite pie flavor. We have a couple of cherry trees here, but we rarely get many before the birds do or the deer munch on the branches. We just need to quit being lazy and cover them more than we do.

The God's Eye table topper is quilted and the binding ready to go on. Also, I pieced another table runner, this time in a Disappearing 9 Patch pattern in an Americana theme.

Tom is going to visit his dad today, about an hour and a half southwest of us, so I'm handling it all alone today. He was gone most of yesterday, too, doing errands, having his violin lesson, etc.

Just like we've seen in other people who have had a cancer diagnosis, before they know for sure they have cancer, they seem to be functioning at an almost normal level. Once they hear the diagnosis, they seem to fold in on themselves and just quit living as they were. His dad is not leaving the bed. I think he knew he had cancer way before he was actually told for sure, though, just that hearing the words made it real.

Tom's mom and dad used to go fishing all the time. It was their favorite pasttime. His mom died back in January 2000. About a month ago, his dad looked at one of Tom's sisters and said to her, "Mama is getting the boat ready up there." He knew.
Your work is splendid Speckledhen. I hope he had an OK visit with his Dad- hope he got to cheer him up.

I LOVE spring rolls in rice wrappers with shrimp/noodles/greens, with peanut sauce. I could live on them and California rolls and be a happy camper.

Oh cuteness!
Soooo adorable. Little cheeks peeking out! We have bird houses up too for the swallows. They are usually all full every year.

Mary, what kind of bird is that?

My dad has decided that not eating or drinking will "facilitate the process" as he calls it. He so enjoys his friends coming to visit, and we had all the grandkids over this weekend. And he is not in any pain. He has just decided that he is going to die so the sooner the better. It mortifies him to have his daughters seeing to his needs, especially since he has always been a very independent person. I am spending the next week here with my older sister, then back to work for a few days before coming back down. It is around a 3 1/2 hours drive one way, but when I am home all I want is to be here.

Kelly, the Meyer Lemon Marmalade is good! I am officially out of lemons! I got three 1/2 pints of marmalade out of 5 lemons. I'll give one to my parents and hide the other two for myself!
