Day 2 in caring for Mary's animals.

I about had heart failure when I drove up and saw Jack and Diane in the big pasture. I thought Mary had them corraled, and visions of getting stomped to death by Jack while trying to get him back in his area went through my head. Diana I knew would go easily enough, food win's her heart. I went around the side of the shelter and saw that there is a small opening in the fencing. They both came back through to get their oats. Jack wants to know why he doesn't get to go to the beach.

Then on to the emu's and goats. I almost got an ear attacked for daring to feed Loca first. I was squeezed into a small area between fencing to get to the feeder, so I was an easy target. Luckily, I put the bucket in her face just in time and she changed direction to the feed instead of my ear. I won't make that mistake again. Thankfully the goats were playing with each other and not the fence. I love the drumming sound from the emu's so I took a video of Chica drumming. I'll post it as soon as it's finished uploading.

All was quiet on the chicken front. I checked under the broodies, as Mary has eggs due to hatch tomorrow under Lukka. Nothing yet, no pips or cheeping. I did feel movement in one egg though.

When I was going to leave, I heard quite the racket from the donkeys and turned to see Diana head butting Jacks feeder to try to steal his oats. So far, the bucket is holding on to the fence.

Kelly, I love to hear about your adventures at Mary's!

Also, a big thanks again to Mike for sending me one of these egg crates. It is a very nice gift. I finally picked it up from Mary's and this is where I have it right now. Thanks again Mike!

Now I can't stand spiders. I about had a heart attack a couple of years ago when I was doing laundry and looked down to see a female black widow climbing up my bare leg! I was able to stomp my foot and knock her off of me without getting bit. Gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it.

While often snakes have a big ick factor for some folks, the non-poisonous types are beneficial in many ways. Easy for me to say as they do not freak me out, I know - but I have a very pronounced dislike for spiders. And yet I can refrain from squashing them on sight, as logically know how much they help us out. STILL...

This little guy was curled up in my garden not that long ago - thought is was a great big nightcrawler! Northern Redbelly Snake

I saw a snake like that the other day, only it was bright green and black. Small, like a red racer. I was the hero mom for picking it up and showing it to my boys. I should have taken a picture of it before I let it go.
