Nope, not a rooster. I'm going with Leghorn or Leghorn mix.

Pavs this morning. The third one is still dealing with an unabsorbed yolk sac and unable to stand.

I chuckle every time I look at them!

Gosh they look so funny with their gold heads and dark beards! Cute though!

Quote: Ewww, hate spiders. I don't want brown recluse spiders here. They cause the tissue to go necrotic.

It is ridiculous how many black widows we have here. I have 2 huge females I have to get the courage to go kill. One under the kids fort (they don't play on it anymore) and another in my chicken run. I've never been bitten, but I understand it is very painful.

Brown Recluse are becoming more common here in Northern California. They usually hide and are not aggressive though. Black Widows are every where! I have never been bitten by one though I am very aware of what the webs feel like.

The Brown recluse are much more poisonous though. One person in Red Bluff California was bitten and wound up with liver failure and a huge hole where the bite was.

We have recluses, here, too. My husband is quite paranoid when it comes to spiders especially recluses. I'm not because they are called "brown recluse" because they tend to be reclusive and would prefer to run and hide from you. If you use common sense and wear gloves when you reach into dark enclosed spaces (especially outdoors) a bite is actually very rare. Most serious bites I hear of are people who work in attics for a living or people who get a bite in bed- which I guess you can't always avoid!

In all my years of dialysis nursing, we saw a few patients who ended up with renal failure after brown recluse spider bites. Watch where you stick your hands!

Aw, my little Pavlovskaja with the unabsorbed yolk sac passed on during the night. I hoped it would make it but knew in my heart it wouldn't. RIP little guy.

Activated charcoal is supposed to draw out any spider poisons and heal the bites

lord have mercy my white rock is broody! She has been on the nest for several days but I have Ben kicking her out and collecting the eggs and tossing them? No roo in your coop sister!

I assumed she was roosting at night and getting in the nest box during the day. I went out tonight and she is on the nest hunkered down. I have pavlovskajas hatching on Friday so I may move her to an empty coop and give her some infertile eggs to sit on then let her have hatched chicks. She's
A first timer so it's a little scary with expensive chicks. We'll see how she does over the next couple of days.

So funny that I added a picture of a white rock to my blog, then my only white rock goes broody. I thought about getting a white rock as the farm mascot, And I had forgotten that I already have one in the layer coop. she's a crazy thing so getting close enough to bond with her won't be easy.
