I made cream of mushroom soup and Cheddar bay biscuits tonight.

It was very tasty. The recipe called for sherry or cognac--I used Korbel brandy instead.

Yum!

Did you use Ina Garten's recipe? It is phenomenal. I am making it tomorrow for dinner and for use in green bean casserole for Christmas.

I used Anthony Bourdain's recipe.

I will look up Ina's for next time.

Icelandic news.

I noticed today that someone has been sleeping in a nest box in Coop #3. I assumed it was one of the old girls. Judy has been sleeping on the floor occasionally. When I went in tonight to move the cockerel and pullets to their new coops, I found Lukka asleep in the middle nest box. Bless her sweet heart, she has not been looking well the last few days. I don't think she's broody after devoting her entire life to raising babies. Her look-a-like daughter was roosting next to Isi. Unfortunately she got moved to be in with one of the new cockerels.

Of the 10 eggs I put in the incubator two days ago, one is veining! I think it is probably from the mating of the silver cockerel and not Isi. So as of now Isi, Lukka, Stella, Judy and Skye have the big coop and run all to themselves to grow old in. It will be the perfect place to put grow-outs because they are all too old to chase littles around!

I moved the silver cockerel in a coop with the black pullet and Lukka's daughter. I took the two with huge crests to pair up with the cockerels from Kelly. They arrive tomorrow.

I am excited to see what happens!

All the food talk is making me hungry. I used to buy a country cured ham around Thanksgiving. I haven't done that for a few years now. For Christmas we will have beef tenderloin at my sister's.

Glad you have one egg veining, but if it hatches, you are going to have the dreaded lone chick! Maybe you'll get lucky and Lukka will go broody.

I think the blue male would pair nicely with Lukka's daughter. You can always switch them around later though. I was trying to tell you before we got cut off that the mottled boy is trying to mate as well now. He has yet to be successful, the dummy chose one of my largest hens to try to mate with.

No kidding there! My son is 15 and it takes a lot of food to have leftovers. He easily eats twice what I do, if not more. Boys kill you on food, girls kill you on clothes and shoes.
