Stella's Social Club

I had to admit defeat last night. I've been trying to get a queen in my split since mid May with no luck. So, I went and bought a mated queen last night. Here she is before I installed her in the hive. They immediately surrounded her, but they didn't look hostile towards her. We put wax over the candy plug so she can have a little more time to be accepted by the hive, since they have been queenless for so long.

Whenever you think you know something about bees, they let you know that you know nothing.

Interesting.

I love hearing about your bees, Kelly. That is so interesting.

My chicks are growing out. I really like this red cuckoo orpington girl.

Very Pretty.

Red, Red Cuckoo, White, and maybe Black. This guy lives in Galena, KS but works in Joplin. He is selling out of all his birds. Maybe he is retiring? Not sure, but he is an older guy (like me!) They are all imports and he is selling them for $20 a pair. Some are just 3 - 4 months old. Not sure what all variety he has left.

Wow, that's a deal! I think I'd better pass. I've already got English Mottled and Jubilee Orps, and those big birds are feed hogs. Plus I'm trying to get Svart Hona going for next year... so between that expense and still no income I'd better not.

Are you thinking of beekeeping Ron?

Are the fires at least contained at this point?

Beekeeping would be fun and it would help my Peach, orange and plum trees. It would also add to my oddness in the family....We will see....

The jerulasem fire is 71% contained and the Rocky fire is 100% contained. The new fire burned into the old one so that helped.

We are heating back into 100 plus weather so the wind direction has changed from the south to the north.

wow looks great . wish my netting was tight like that

Took me an entire day to get the netting super tight and stapled all the way around. On all my other runs I got it to a certain point and then let it go without finishing. This one is so small I wanted to get everything right from the start. Windows, ventilation, vinyl flooring, hardware cloth skirting, great auto pop door, auto waterer, and a Grandpa's feeder.

I hate to say it (no I don't) but Mary you are a real' noodge' always complaining.

I know you love to needle Kelly but, that is a lovely egg no matter where it was laid.

Have you renovated the house yet?? What are you doing with your time ? - I mean freedom from goats, emus, donkeys, millions of chickens.
