Tammy, You saw this girl when you were here.........she has never molted like this before...I don't know what is up, but she is getting scrambled eggs and dry cat food to help her get her feathers back before it gets any colder...........

I had to look at the one or two (ok, ok 3) chest feathers to figure out what she was. Poor girl, you can not even imagine that huge fluffy gal molting down like this.

I think you need to bring her into the house until her feathers come back

I did put her in the dog crate that is in the coop tonight so that she has sole access to high protein food to help get her feathers back. She is 3 1/2 and has never looked like this before when molting. I'm wondering what is up with her..........

Must be one of those strange years for molting. I am breaking one of my cardinal rules here, i.e. NEVER post pictures of a hen in her Time of Shame,

, but for the first time ever, my RIR/Buff Orp hen, who is going on 6 years old, dropped ALL of her back feathers in the course of a few hours one day. In the morning, her back was fully covered, though I noticed she was molting, but in the afternoon, she looked like this, bare from hackle to oil gland:

I love molting pictures ..... they crack me up and make me giggle.

I noticed my molting girls getting their bright yellow legs back. Since they aren't laying eggs, I suppose. The girls that are still laying have paler legs. I never really noticed this before.

Can you believe this? Mandatory staff meeting - all hospital employees must attend one of the meetings. The announcement was that "maybe," we will get a raise this year - BUT we won't know until after the presidential election. The determining factor depends on who wins. Mind you, we got a ONE percent raise last year (many considered it an insult). That was the first raise in SEVEN years! Is this unbelievable?
