BooHoo, NOT, Michael cancelled HughesNet today!

I asked if I could drive the Polaris over the satellite dish until it was flat as a pancake but he said we have to return it. Hmmm, I wonder what the penalty is and if it would still be worth it.

They never came to pick up our dish - it's sitting under our house.

So maybe this will work out for me after all? Dang, Michael is over at the other house picking up the Polaris. I'll have to run over it with the Hummer now.

I am a bad chicken mama. I went by the old house today and the chickens and turkeys were out of food! They had eaten everything in the hanging feeders then completely took the feeders apart trying to get more food out! The Isbars and cream legbars that hate me were standing on my feet while I put the feeder back together and filled it. They ate like they were starving. I felt terrible. I thought I had filled them with enough food but apparently not. The turkey feeder was disassembled too.

We think we will be done fencing and covering the runs by the weekend so I should be able to bring them home soon. Until then I am going over every day no matter how busy I am here.

I have been busy covering 700 feet on three rail ranch fencing with wire to keep the goats in. They were going under the bottom rail and all over the yard. I was so afraid they would wander into the street. I tired rolling some chicken wire out and attaching it to the vinyl fence. I looked bad and probably wouldn't have worked well. So I found concrete reinforcement wire panels at Home Depot and they worked great. They look like this:

It took 87 4'x8' wire panels to enclose the goat/emu yard. I attached them with big washers and self-drilling screws. That vinyl is impossible to get a regular screw into. Since the yard goes up a hill the panels had to go that way too so there are a few with gaps large enough for the goats to get through. They haven't found those yet so I have time. I am going to put wire in those spots to make it difficult to get through. I am waiting until we get the big chain link enclosure over here so I can lock them in while I wrap the wire. I won't have a hair left on my head if I try to do it with them loose. It was hard work and took me a couple of days but I got the job done and I can rest easier now that my girls are confined. I'll take a picture tomorrow.

Michael has all the perimeter wire up and just has to stretch the back side of the chicken runs. He used 6 ft tall non-climb horse fencing. Between the runs I am putting 6 ft tall, vinyl coated chicken wire. They only place baby chicks can escape is on the two sides and back. I'll add 2 feet of small gauge wire to the bottom to keep them in.

I have 12 baby chicks in my basement right now and Lukka is due to hatch three more in a week. The ones in the basement are in a wire pen with the sides and top lined with plastic bird netting. The netting is double thickness over the top which is at least 3 feet high. I heard mad screaming coming from down there today and found one of the chicks between the layers of netting over the top! Stupid little thing probably flew up and got caught in the bottom layer then managed to flip over and get in the middle. One baby screams several times a day because it is on top of the Eco-Glow and can't find the 11 others who are under it! I am glad I could tell the difference between the stupid screaming and the real deal screaming.

Tomorrow we are planning to jack up the coops and brooder house and level them all permanently. Then we'll frame in the fronts, make gates and enclose the rest with wire. Goal is to be done by this weekend!

Mary, Can't wait to see the pics! Amazing how those little Icelandics can FLY!
