Stolen Horse--Man is BACK in jail!

Kopertox is great, and even works well for foot rot in sheep.

That price sounds about right.

for thrush or any doubt you have about your horse's feet. Not only the crack should be done, put it in the V of the frog as well and all the heel cracks and all that goody stuff should be applied for a good measure.

Max will be OK but the farrier would work with you getting Max back to where he should be.

He asked me to call if I have any questions or concerns about his hooves. Was a REALLY nice guy. Had to get onto Max once or twice. He was licking my hand the entire time. Grossness...He also did a Pilates move where he stretched ALL the way back with his hoof on the farriers block. His belly was on the ground and he was stretched out. Had to reprimand him for that. Other than that...stood like a trooper!!!

There was some flakiness of the skin on the coronet band and he told me to get some "Corona" to put on there if I was worried about it. He said it was somewhat like dish-pan hands. I asked if he meant the beer...he laughed and said no..shame on me!

Max also decided it was fun to pick up the farriers block in his mouth while the farrier was turned fixing the shoes. I wonder what goes through his head...

Corona is a lotion, great stuff! Rubbing it on the coronet band would make it supple and you would have smoothness on the wall of his hooves. They must have been so dry.

I think he means lanolin ointment? A thick, creamy white pasty ointment. I find it at Fleet Farm, in yellow 1-lb tubs. It's for livestock but we use it on ourselves for dry skin, works amazingly

It's thick and white - comes in a tub or tube. Tube is hard to squeeze out when the weather turns cool - bag balm works too. My spotted saddle horse (pinto) had fly allergies - red/itchy bumps on her bare under belly and between her legs if she got bit on her white skin. I used to keep it lubed up so the flies couldn't or wouldn't want to bite with the sticky stuff under there.

Yup, that's the stuff! Corona, snicker...

RoPo, I assume by bacterial infection you mean he has thrush? It's common, especially during wet season. If you want to go with a commercial product try to get your hands on Bannix (spendy but very effective). Initially, if it's really bad, get a thrush pack and wrap his hooves in it with Vet Wrap. It's good for about 3 days before you have to remove the wraps. Also, stores won't tell you this because they want you to buy a commercial product but bleach water slathered on the hoof after washing with a brush daily works just as good. You can go that route until you get your hands on a commercial product, or just stick with the bleach water.

Corona rubbed in real well around the coronary band daily will help promote healthy hoof growth. And you may also want to put him on Hoof Maker for a few months to get his feet back in shape quicker. It's a supplement that promotes healthy hoof growth.

What she is talking about is likely not thrush... If she is using Koppertox on the wall it is probably a separation that has allowed bacteria to enter.. Thrush is typically the frog and soft tissues.

Good call on the Bannix though and White Lightening is another good one!!!
