Stolen Horse--Man is BACK in jail!

I'm going to try. The 30 days gives me more time to get every piece of evidence I can.

Can anyone give me more ideas as to what else I could use to prove he's mine?

I've got:
Registration papers from the PHBA
Photographs from last year as well as from April 19, 2009.
Signed lease agreement
Phone records

Would a signed letter from the original owner/breeder be helpful?

I am still working on getting the typed notes from the lawyer to see what the exact statements given.

I would ask the DA if they can send someone out to VIEW the horse and take pictures. This would help set my mind at ease knowing Max is still alive and doing well. I would even offer to "pay" for someones time to view the horse - maybe even a vet exam at the uncles.

Did Max have a "regular" vet at your place? He or she could also be used to prove the horse is yours.

Unfortunately no, BUT, the vet who did remove his wolf teeth thought he was gorgeous and would probably remember him. He was too young to have a teeth floating at the time and his shots were all purchased but then given by me. I had him scheduled for a Coggins that April, but that's when the issues started.

Copies of vet bills, health certificates, coggins tests, anything that lists your name as the owner. I know that in Nebraska a brand inspector can use those things in helping him to prove a history of ownership. Be careful, the guy might just say that the horse is one he bought someplace else and that he never got one from the nephew. Pictures and coggins reports can be helpful if he does because they show the markings.

But he's already told the lawyer that he purchased the horse in question from his nephew at the end of April for $300. SO, I'm hoping that's prettying "darning" in itself right?

LOL What a clan of cretins!!!! This should be a slam dunk from here on out. He just... Well, anyhow, Unless he did $6700 worth of "improvements" on that horse in a few months, he has no cause to claim he is now worth $7k. Just because the original jerk sold the horse cheap does not mean he is off the hook for a misdemeanor. I could steal the hope diamond and sell it for a dollar, but that does not mean I only stole a dollar worth of stuff. He is still in deep doo doo. Man, this just gets better and better.

They are sending someone out to make sure the horse is in good condition and is still on the property.

I'm not breathing a sigh of relief yet, but my chest isn't as tight!
