Stolen Horse--Man is BACK in jail!

What about contacting the local humane society about this. Not to speak to the court in any way, but for them to check on the horses welfare. It's possible the DA could get a court order for them to do so, it's the sort of thing our humane society has done, and would safe the judge some trouble and time possibly.

I think a letter writing campaign to the judge could be seen as trying to influence the court which is illegal, no matter how hard people try to sound neutral or encouraging, or just wanting action in general... even if it isn't seen as trying to influence per se, it could just irritate her so no matter how hard she tries, she could get grumpy. If that were to happen, then she'd be obligated to recuse herself if she thought it would affect her decision... another delay.

hey, i know one thing you can do.
if you call animal control or spca and say that you are worried about an animal being abused or neglected..even if you embellish a bit to hurry them along, they will check into it.
if this has been suggested, ill shut up!

Call the SPCA..tell them your concerns..
If you cant get the guys address..have the SPCA call the judge and have them get the address from the judge.

It might be a bit different over here but I spoke to a friend who works for the RSPCA. He said to go in to your local society and ask to speak to the head or the manager of the rangers/ officers/ whatever they call them (the ones that go out and do home visits etc...

Sit down with him or her and explain the issue, take any and all paperwork with you, explain your concerns. Give them all the contact details for both the DA and the Judge and whatever details you have of the person who has Max and also the court docket number. He told me that if it was him he would approach the DA and the Judge and request the information to do an independent evaluation to make sure that the horse is being cared for. If there is any reason to remove the horse then they would and then they would care for the horse until the court case is settled.

It may not work but it's worth a try, it also shows the Judge that you are concerned about the Horses well being and may also help her move along, either that or she will work with them to go out and see the horse when they do.

Hope this helps and I really hope you get Max back soon

If I'm not mistaken, Ropo has done that already but the rangeror (some official) is related to the defendant, (am I right on that, anyone?)

Why not write a "Bench Memorandum" to the judge? Be polite and be sure to send copies to all parties. just like a motion. A bench memo can be a direct contact with a judge, without breaking the courts rules or the law. Keep it as brief as posssible, but tell the judge how you feel. It should have the case caption on top and then in bold, underline a nd centered the words BENCH MEMORANDUM.
