STRANGE ANIMALS AS PETS -- ANYONE HAVE ANY?

big_smile.png
I hand raised a "Starling" bird once.named him Fred, he lived inside my apt on my houseplants.was trained to come to me whistling....used to fly over to neighbors apt and she would call me and say LISTEN,.fred would be on the phone pecking.so all I had to do was go out back door and call him and he would fly home............oh he was fun.............

I do not know the story behind this but I clearly remember going to visit my Granny in KY. She had a pet skunk. I was so enthralled.

let me just give you all a run down of what I have now: 3dogs, 1 cat, 1 red tegu 4', 14 assorted kingsnakes I bought, 2 kingsnakes I caught,2 gopher snakes I caught, 4 northern pacific rattlesnakes I caught, 1 southern painted turtle, 1 horned frog, 2 rat snakes, 1 hedgehog, 1 bredle python,5 rats for feeding snakes, and now a bunch of chickens.
Tho in the past I have had all kinds of different pets. So far, my chickens are the only pets that arent just going to be another mouth to feed, theyll feed me back.
One room in my house is the "snake room" and nobody goes in there but me. Its wall to wall snakes and as soon as you open the door, the rattlers start going.Even I get spooked sometimes.

Wasn't mine, but a friend of mine that passed away used to work for the Wildlife Rescue. She would hand raise baby squirrels (so cute!) and even had a pet Opossum. She was actually very sweet and loved giving kisses (though very sloppy). Acted like a little cat. Even hung out with dogs and cats and squirrels.

As for me - have had bunnies, pygmy goat (Alf - loved eating long hair), bullhead fish (taken from a lake and tried to raise), salt water crabs from the beach, even have a giant house spider right now in a big pickle jar. Most I had when I was little and I live in Bothell - which is more city area so for me - very unusual

Used to also have a gecko.

Right now I have 1 big dog (Australian Shepherd)- 1 little dog (Pom mix - 1 littler dog (mini Shih-Tzu), 2 cats (1 Persian mix, 1 basic shorthair) all females, then of course our three hens, plus

1 100-gl aquarium with Discus fish (about 9) and assorted other fish and 1 30-gl aquarium with mating pair of Discus. And I really wish I had a male Doberman.

I have a praying mantis that I love to watch and I also like black widows and have had many of those in years past(and, just in case you're wondering, no, I've never been bitten by any of my spiders...have been bitten but that's another story), though now I only have one that I've had since she was just a wee tiny baby and now she is very big and beautiful! Go ahead, call me strange, but I've always loved spiders, esp. black widows(I even have a tattoo of one on my foot!). Beyond those, I have the standard, dogs, cats, chickens and fish...

Oh my !!!!! Praying Mantis is very cool....but Black widows?????

Yikes. I am so arachnaphobic I can't stand to look at a spider. Used to have nightmares when I was a kid of them crawling over the covers to come and get me. I can tolerate all of God's critters except those. Iknow they have their place so I admire you.

Recently there was a free one in the local Iwanna paper. I thought about getting it so I could shoot it. LOL

I have goats, the fowl, an alpaca, sheep, etc. and have had beardies, hedgies, ferrets, skunks, raccoons, rats, etc. in the past.
Right now I have 2 cavies (one was FOUND loose in a field, I got asked to take it because nobody else around here knew what it was) and am bottle raising a fawn for DNR.

Here's a pic of Baby, he's the older cavy (one year). We had him nuetered.

This is Joey, the foundling, I'm guessing he's about 10-12 weeks
