Strange behaviour of silkies

They are both a year old now. They both laid about 8-10 eggs before going broody previously. It's the end of autumn and start of spring here. So I guess they are healthy and happy chickens.
Sounds like it they are happy and well taken care of.

Can they lay an egg when they are broody?
At the beginning of the broody days they will lay eggs to add to their clutch. After 2 or 3 days they usually do not lay for the remaining 21 or so days and won't lay again until about 6 weeks after chicks have hatched. Some take longer say 8 weeks or 10 especially if they haven't let their chicks go on their own already. That's how it was with my girls.

Was just wondering as it was the first time I saw this, as she had laid a lot of eggs already. Thanks.
