Strange-I seem to have insect bites- anyone else-*long post*

I hate to say it, but nail polish has never worked for me. What did work, oddly enough, was windex. An old farmer told me that trick. The ammonia in the windex is what does the trick, so straight ammonia would work too. I went through a bottle of windex the last time I had chiggar bites. You have to keep applying it, but it does take the edge off a bit.

Chiggars are too tiny to see, but their bites do leave a welt, sometimes with a little blister in the middle. They are red and impossibly itchy. Mine have always taken weeks to quit itching.

You have my sympathies if it is indeed chiggar bites. Chiggars are why I spent my summer drenched in bug spray!

I never saw any bugs either. It was odd because I would be covered in welts in the morning and they would disappear after a few hours, then I would get new "bites" and the whole reaction would start over. My allergic reactions got worse and worse each day till the point where half of my foot would swell up, but at least it didn't last very long and it DID respond very well to Bennadryl.

I personally wouldn't waste your time/money seeing a dermatologist --- my first and last experience with one was TERRIBLE and a total waste of my time/money, but your results may vary.

You guys are the bests - anyone who wants to see pics of my nasty bites is A-OK!!!
This one happened to be available for picture-taking..

ROFL!!!

Did you have a dry hot summer in NY this year? That is when we get them down here in Texas. Rain and cooler temps should help get rid of them. You may also want to spread sulpher around, it helps keep them away also. I lived in Pa. for 10 years and NEVER had a chigger bite that for north, and I did alot of hiking, camping and fishing.
Not saying that it is not chiggers but just never experianced them there. I did know what they were before moving up there since I was born in the south. Good luck to you.

OMG - we had nothing but rain this summer - it is now starting to dry up
I have to say, between the Listerine compress, the ACV compress and the Lanacane, it is much, much better today - Thanks so very, very much.
My poor DH - I used the last of his Listerine !!

Oh Oh OH those nasty things; My solution, and it works if I remember to use it. At our farm store, or sporting outlets they sell Cutter's outdoor woodsman spray for fleas, ticks and yes chiggers. OFF doesn't work, but the cutters woodsmen does if you remember to spray it on the shoes, legs all the way up to, bottom of the pant leg especially and socks. Try it, it works better than the itchies, nasty stuff;;; and smile:rolleyes:
