Stress: how do you react? How do you deal?

I'm the same way about those things.
If I have to be around other people (at work whatnot) I get pretty darn grouchy and short tempered.
I like to sleep, it helps my brain relax. Just shut it all out, and fall away into the blackness, nothing will matter, for a few hours anyway.
It helps a lot to go sit someplace quiet and just waste time staring into space. There's a spot down by the river that makes a good thinking spot.
I drive. Just go for a drive around countryish roads. Traffic obviously doesn't relax me, but winding country roads do. The sound of the engine, and perhaps the feeling of being in control (as the driver) just helps.

Certain people have a calming effect on me, so if I can spend time with someone like that it's nice, but not really the best idea at 3am, ya know?

Thanks Red. Most of the pictures are from a nursery rhyme book I had as a child. The theme is more about this image that society likes to have of children as sweet and innocent and of childhood as a happy romp in rainbow land. The truth is a bit more complicated. Childhood is not all gumdrops and roses and all children can be mean and many can be just plain cruel. But, society tends to prefer the Disney version. There's also some things in there about things being fluffy on the outside and spikey on the inside. Parenting works its way in as well. Anyway, I could go on and on, but it was working through some of my own childhood issues and parenting issues. It was very cathartic.

Edited to add that it's hard to get across the feel of the painting in a 2D version, the real painting is quite textural and a good 1/2" deep in places.

x2... I've done collages before, since a teen... but never 'stuck' them... just multiple images that 'hit me' that I put on my wall... tape, pins, whatever.

I do things... not really a collage but more a list.. in paintbrush. Christmas lists, and project ideas and such. Never have really dug down and made them stick... maybe I should.

Thanks for the idea... I love what you did. The blues you used are really nice.

Great piece, Angie! Your right brain looks like a lovely place to hang out

Stress? Me?? naahhh..

I let my hens out to pick around the lawn and just sit watching them for a while, or go for a hike... Exercise helps me sleep better, gives me time to slow my mind, lets perspective find new footing.

Well, I do have that bottle of puzzle glue... and if that won't work I've got the bottle of 'shine' from when I painted a book (really a box) for MIL's Mom's Day Gift...

Ohhh... actually, I've got DH's old science board from his Doghouse Heater thing... have all the info backed up so the board is moot, that I could use as a "canvas" to give it a go...

Dangit... FOCUS Piney, FOCUS... Clean The Garage... MUST clean the garage... can't do Christmas Inventory until you Clean The Garage... gah... so many awesome project ideas (that are way more fun than chores)... so little time.

Okay Pineapple, I'm going to tell you a story. When my boys were quite young, I realized that I hadn't created anything in years. I felt empty. But hey, my house was clean. I stopped and realized that life is short, when someone dies do they ever say "She kept a really clean house". NO! We come and go on this earth so very quickly. Do something fulfilling here and there. Believe me, the garage will still be there when you finish.

When I'm stressed,

I go to my "Thankful Journal". For several years, I have written down the smallest things that I am thankful for and happy about. When I feel bad or stressed, it helps me to put things into perspective again. I also like to take photographs of my dogs, horses, and chickens. Yesterday I gave all my 5 week old chicks a bubble bath.

It was 90 outside, and they really enjoyed the good bath. I dried them off with a soft towel, and put them in a cardboard box in the sun to dry. I think it did more good for me than the chicks.

I loved seeing their clean fluffy feathers. When I put them back in their nice clean brooder, they took a good long nap. It makes me feel good to take care of them. I enjoy giving my dogs a bath too.
Yes I am Crazy!
