Stuck Egg! Urgent!

This is what she’s looking like now. That blue inside of her vent is her egg.

I’m sorry that she still hasn’t passed her egg. Does it feel like a hard shell? How long do you think that she has been egg bound? Vets who have experience, can collapse the egg and vacuum it out of the vent. Doing it yourself might cause infection in the vent that could cause a problem. I would still try to manipulate the egg and try to get it out.

It’s a very hard shell, that’s how hers always are. She has been egg bound since about 1. I’ve been trying, and although I have gotten it a bit further, it hasn’t done a whole lot, and I’m afraid I’ll hurt her. I can keep trying though. I really appreciate all the advice! My dad is going to contact the vet tomorrow morning, but our vet hardly ever responds, and doesn’t generally work on birds, so she may be unavailable.

She's running out of time because the egg is blocking her ability to poop.

I had a hen die from this same exact scenario last year. I could see and feel the egg, but after giving her 3 calcium citrate tablets throughout that day, despite her contractions and my best efforts to remove the egg out with my finger, she couldn't expel the egg. Upon home necropsy, I realized she couldn't expel the egg because it had broken inside her vent, and jagged eggshell had cut into part of her vent. If I had known that, I would have broken and removed the egg shell. The article I linked says to break the egg and remove in pieces only as a last resort. Your hen may be at that last resort point.

Thank you for this! And I’m really sorry about your hen. I will definitely be bookmarking that one! She’s alive, and I got the egg out!

I got the egg out! Kevin is doing so much better! I was making small movements in her vent to try to wriggle it out, and she started pushing! Harder and harder each time until she has a big, long push, and I grabbed hold of the egg, and she kept on pushing until it came out!

Thank you to everyone who replied to this thread and to any silent supporters! I really do appreciate it all, and I am so happy.

Thank you!!

I have goat antibiotics, I’ll have to recheck as to what it is called, but it is injectable only, and I don’t have a syringe for her. What are the chances that I’ll have to give it to her and what are the signs? I’ll keep this thread updated if anything takes a turn for the worse, but I would appreciate any sort of heads up! Thank you again!

What is the antibiotic?

Is there damage to her vent? I wouldn't think those would be needed unless she has an infection.

It’s called Liquamycin. It says it’s an oxytetracycline injection?

Not that I can see, I was trying to get the egg out for a long while, but I don’t think I did any damage. She did most of the work by the end as well. There was a tiny bit of blood while she was pushing and a teeny bit on the egg, but it didn’t seem bad at all.
