I'm from my dad's second marriage. His parents never accepted me, my sister or my mother, and when I had to live with them in Colorado while my parents looked for a house in California, their dislike of us became even more obvious. It was awful for a nine year old girl to feel like a second class grandchild all the time and to hear my grandmother saying unkind things about my mother.

I have 3 stories about my family. The first two aren’t so good, but the third has a happy ending. So please bear with me. :D
1. My grandmother’s either passed away a few months ago, she went to the funeral with my grandfather. Her sister-in-law wouldn’t talk to her, apparently she’s never liked my grandmother for no reason. When this sister-in-law’s son got married she made sure my grandmother wasn’t invited. My grandmother was so hurt by this. She didn’t get to see her brother a lot because of this woman and now she wasn’t even allowed to be at her nephew’s wedding. My grandmother doesn’t speak to her sister-in-law as she has spurned my grandmother on several occasions. Even when this sister-in-law called my grandmother after her brother passed, she found a way to be mean to my grandmother. Needless to say I’ve never met this woman and I don’t want to. I don’t want to have anything to do with someone who feeds off of tormenting my grandmother.
1. My father’s parents both came from Hungary after WWII. My grandfather had a brother in Pennsylvania and this brother had an extra property that he rented out. He let them stay their for like 3 years, & then one day he kicked them to the street because he wanted to rent the house out. He gave them no warning. My grandmother had to work as a nanny to support her family while my grandfather worked as a projectionist at a drive in movie theater. Then my grandfather passed away from lung cancer when my dad was 13. Now my grandmother had to support 2 kids and herself on a nanny’s salary. The only family she had in this country was her brother-in-law who wouldn’t help her. My grandmother’s sister-in-law went behind her husband’s back to help my grandmother out.
3. Now both of my parents grew up as Traditional Jews. When my parents were dating they decided that they wanted to become Orthodox Jews. They were put in touch with a Rabbi that dealt with converts. He advised my parents to keep a strong relationship with their parents and never to sever ties (this same Rabbi actually married my parents). At first my father’s mother wasn’t so thrilled, but before their wedding she made peace, and embraced their decision. My parents had 2 weddings. One wedding was done according to Jewish Law and the other wedding was more secular. They did 2 weddings to make their parents happy. My mother has an amazing relationship with her parents and older sisters as well as my dad’s family. My dad has an amazing relationship with his mother and brother as well as my mom’s family. We eat at their houses and they’re always careful that we have kosher food. Since my mother is the only one who keeps a kosher kitchen we have thanksgiving at my house, which I absolutely love! Everyone comes to my house and we catch up on each others ’
lives and everyone gets along amazingly. I love my family. Even though my grandparents, aunts, uncles, & cousins aren’t as religious as my family we get together for birthdays, holidays, and weekends. I love my family!

People assuming things about you... I think we've all had dealt with that before.

Finished reading everyone's post and i'll be honest. My faith in humanity has dropped a little. It's so amazing to see people being treated differently based off of their looks or how they act to just shrug it off like that. I used to go to a public school up until 3rd grade and started homeschooling. The reason I was pulled out of school was because I wasn't the happiest of children. I guess you could say I was depressed as that was what my mother would say but I don't really like using that word. I was frequently picked on by most of the girls because I hanged out with the boys and some of the boys would pick on me because I hanged out with them, well except for two of them who actually enjoyed hanging out with me. After I started homeschooling my grades had improved and I had the time to actually spend some time with my animals.

I think I was in seventh grade when I had decided to cut my hair short.. Mostly because I thought that this one actress from my favorite show, Primeval, Hannah Spearritt, looked so cool! The other reason was because I completely neglected my hair. It doesn't happen as much now but back then I would get teased for having short hair saying that I looked like a boy or that I was in to girls.

I remember last thanksgiving My parents invited some family over and my cousin, who's about a year younger than me, brought his friend over from hockey practice so we all sat down and played some video games. I remember seeing his friend glance over at me then whispering something over to my cousin quietly chuckling so I asked him if something was wrong, I got a look from him as though he were trying so hard to not laugh and my cousin looked over awkwardly and said 'He was talking about if you were uh.' I think he too embarrassed to say anymore so I asked if he thought I was a lesbian and he nodded while his friend cracked a smile and laughed for a second. And so I politely responded saying 'No I am straight' then continued to play the game we were playing while ignoring the little comments he would lean over and whisper to my cousin like 'This will be too easy playing against her' Or 'Who taught her how to play video games?' Since apparently it's impossible for a girl to be good at video games.

Now, I'm very short considering my age and very thin.. Though I'm not done growing yet I have a feeling that i'm not going to get any taller. I have short dirty blonde hair and blue eyes, Not grey, blue, I am also very fit since it's mostly me carrying buckets of water out for my horses, goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, etc everyday. My personality also isn't 'Girly' or quote, 'How it should be'. I always wear flannel shirts and a cap, Cloths that are a bit big on me, I'm very messy and almost never have a clean room, I enjoy gory/scary movies.. Anyone ever seen the movie Hacksaw Ridged? Best movie I've ever saw. I hunt/trap quite often and have animal pelts in my bedroom on my walls, and I love watching baseball (Go Dodgers!)

Now i'm not a super religious person like my grandfather, I believe in God, but I also believe in evolution, I guess you could say I don't really have a religion and because of that I get a lot of crap from people saying 'Oh you should be *Insert Religion* Or you're going to burn in Hell!' and stuff like that. I go to a youth group with a hole bunch of people who are a bunch of major Christians. Not to be rude but all the kids are bratty there, They'll go and talk crap about the other kids.. Or during games the 'popular' group would single out some kid and purposely get him/her out every time we'd play. I remember one of the kids (Who I absolutely hated) Came up to me saying 'You look like a boy, Why do you cut your hair so short? You should grow it out or everyone's going to think you're into girls or that you're a trans!' Oh I so badly wanted to just give him the ol' Punch-A-Roo but instead I just smiled at him and explained why I liked my hair short and why he shouldn't be going around talking to people like that.

I honestly though don't care about what other people think. I like me, My friends and family like me, and I have my animals, that's really all that matters. Though it doesn't hurt to bring home another animal to the farm whenever i'm feeling down ;)

That's such a sweet and bittersweet story. I love hearing about people like you who love their family no matter what. I also know what's like to love someone at a distance for self-protection and sanity.

The war was horrible in Hungary. I spent a month in Budapest. The buildings still show signs of a war ravaged country. The history is right there in front of you. It's amazing they survived and were able to start over in America.

You guys have all brought tears to my eyes! It's a complicated world and it just reminds me how easy it is to hurt people with stupid remarks, especially those closest to you. That's probably why most of us love our animals so much isn't it? They don't judge us, they don't care what we look like, just that we love them and take care of them.

I started homeschooling my kids after my daughter was not treated well at her school. They were convinced she had Aspergers. She's very smart, perceptive and mature, but there wasn't a day that went past that the teacher didn't have some story of something bad she'd done at school. Yet she's as good as gold at home (other than not sleeping much). This went on for three years, then there was an incident at school. I got rung up and told that my daughter has snuck back into the classroom and trashed it. I asked Emily what had happened and she told me that one of the boys had tricked her into going back into the classroom, telling her he had a surprise for her. He then shut her in there and held the door so that she couldn't escape, and got some friends to hold the other door. So I'm not surprised she trashed the damn classroom in her panic and she did not return to school after that.

I was so furious as it turns out she was getting bullied and none of the teachers saw it - it was always my daughter's fault. We even took her to a child psychologist after that to get his opinion. He talked to her for a long time and concluded that she was quirky for sure, but did not have Aspergers - her behaviour was due to being bullied (he had the schools 'report' to refer to). In my opinion it wasn't just other children bullying her either! And the school had the gall to ask me if I had any 'concerns about the little man' ie. our son who was about to start school and had being going for before school visits so they should've known his name (though he stopped wanting to go because the other children were pushing him on the playground). It was horrible!

you know another assumption i can't stand is, when you believe in something (or do say an activity) and just assumed your a bad person in that group, let me explain.

what got me think was today BC made grizzly bear hunting illegal today, due to the actions of trophy hunters (now i disagree with hunting for horns or just to kill an animal for no reason.) but then there is talk about how all hunting is hurting animal populations and how its a barbaric practice and inhumane, going on to pretty much say these anti-hunters are better and us hunters are and i quote "sub-humans".

now most of these comments are on hunting videos, they just assume every hunter kills just for fun and sport, now i want to hunt bears but i also want to eat them. does that make me a bad person?

also another thing a read is how a trap can kill a small child (then go on to show a foot hold) um what? i put my hands in every leg trap i use before i set them for animals. they don't hurt. last night i was messing with a duke number 3 padded jaw and caught my self and i have no broken fingers at all.
sorry if this is off-topic just had to get this off my chest :)

That's another thing.. I get criticized for hunting all the time with people calling me a heartless monster Or that I only kill for sport, This isn't at all true. Most of the pelts in my room are minks, Raccoons, coyotes and foxes and one deer rack. All of the pelts were from animals that harmed mine, I have 7 pelts from a family of raccoons that killed more then half of my flock and just left most of the bodies in the coop as if to add salt to the wound. I have 3 fox pelts.. One from a fox that kept taking off with my ducks, One that killed two of my turkey poults, And one from getting into our dog fence going after my Jack Russells. 4 minks I trapped since they kept getting into our outdoor brooding pen. I've hunted a few deer before but not many.. But I would always use every bit of the animal not wasting a scrap, The pelts would be turned into comfy rug, antlers would either be hung up as decor or made into something, All the venison would be eaten and the bones would be used as fertilizer for my garden. I never go out to hunt just for the fun of it.. It's bad enough one of my older sisters is a vegan and tries talking me out of hunting almost everyday.

do keep in mind wild meat is better then factory farmed meat. and that is awesome about all the pelts (i have yet to trap/catch anything) but i will save the pelts of those i catch or sell them. (i mean a coyote goes for 100$ where i live)
