Stupid neighbors dogs!!!!!!!!!!! warning rant!!!

In most farming communities if you have livestock, you can legally shoot any dog that is loose on your property, it does not have to kill any stock. All it has to do is to be on your property. You just shoot it. it was 'menacing your stock', running your stock or whatever the language of the law says.

If you live in a residential area it is more complicated, but if you have a pony, I assume your property might be big enough to be considered a farm, and you are free to shoot at the dog, whether it kills something or not.

Why don't you look up your local laws and find out.

And please....don't try to grab a dog that is running or trying to kill your stock. You could wind up getting bit very bad. Trap, enclose, rope or shoot. Dogs when they are running livestock get very excited and even a very well trained house pet can get crazy.

You are right, i really should have not grabbed him, but my reactions kick before any thing, maybe for furture to be ready, i will have rope with lope ready ect...

Yep my land is farm land, 16 acres total.

And dont you guys know, last night i looked out the window and saw hubbys car doors open, so he went down to close them becouse he forgot to before bed, and he said he herd all alround the back area in teh woods coyotes, he said tehy sounds like dogs howling but with a laugh noise.

And once he closed teh car doors the noise stopped.
He came back upstairs and we listened, and herd it too. and even my goat was snouting at something and he only does that when he sees us or the goat jumping on the fence.

so i was up so much last night listing and watching out the window.

It's a farm. Follow the unwritten farm law: 'Shoot, shovel and shut up'.

The owner comes looking for his dog, shrug, and say, 'I dunno...I JUST. DON'T. KNOW.'

Coyotes take a lot of animals. They tend to avoid places that have big dogs, but if they pack up, they can take down a big dog.

What we did just the other day, thinking taht wild animals are afraid when they smell other animals, is we have 2 unfixed male gaots, we put one in one corner and one in a nother area, basically if teh wild comes in from teh woods they really would comein at point of teh yard that goes out to a trail into the woods.
We figured teh smell from the gaots would stop any from comeing in, but last was totally scary, i told him wow it sounds like they were getting together to raid our place,
that does make me nerviuse, not only we have to worry about those stupid dogs but now a pack og coyotes.

As many times as the dogs have attacked, not many people would have let it go this far without doing something, whatever the "something" may be.

It sounds like you are setting up a Song Dog Snack Bar if you put your goats out like that(out here they call Coyotes, 'Song Dogs').

I don't think it will do anything to scare any wild animals off - I think it would do the opposite.

This morning I was supposed to pick up 2 Welsummers from a lady in a neighboring town, and I was so excited to add them to my little flock. I received an email from her last night saying I wasn't going to believe this, but her neighbors 2 dogs came under her fence ( for the umpteenth time) when she wasn't home and wiped out almost her entire flock. And, on top of that, the dogs owners are blaming HER! Their limp wristed excuse is that if her chickens hadn't flown over the fence occasionally, their dogs wouldn't be killers!

I AM SO ANGRY at irresponsible people who will not accept the rightful blame for their actions , and compensate those who suffer for their negligence. Nobody seems to want to believe that their sweet little Fluffy, be it dog, cat, or fill in the blank, would EVER harm another animal. Hey folks, some of our pets are hard wired predators, and it is our responsibility to train them and restrain them, and also to honor our neighbors property rights. I know I'm preachin' to the choir... but it so frustrating living near people who are so self absorbed that they won't take responsibility. We have a gem of a neighbor who lets her horses "free range " on everybody elses property, even tho Animal Control and the Sheriff have been called out and spoken to her. Then when they haulass down the road she wants us all to help her round them up! GRRRRR!

I suggest that anybody who has a problem with nuisance neighbors and their animals to document EVERYTHING. Take pictures of their animals on your property, keep notes on the calendar , call the authorities, leave a paper trail! Of course this is after you have politely and firmly spoken to the jerks. And I also applaud the other suggestions given.
