Stupid Vacuum... *Update*

I have a Rainbow, which is a really great vacuum, but man oh man is it ever a pain in the hiney!! It does a fantastic job but I hate messing with the water and then having to take the little filter thingy off the bottom and clean it every time I use the darn thing. I have been looking into Dyson but I'm having a hard time justifying a new vacuum when the Rainbow does such a great job. I wish it would just die already, but alas, 15 years and still going strong. DARN IT!!

Let us know what you end up getting and if you like it...maybe I will throw my Rainbow down a flight of stairs so I can get a new one too!!

I got a bissel from walmart for $50.Before that a eureka from target for $50.I had an orek but after it burned 3-4 months into use I refuse to buy them. The older Orek was better than their new cheapo ones.I got tha last orek around 1998-1999.

Mum's boss is a carpet cleaner, and highly reccomends them, he uses one for the Pre- vacuum before cleaning the carpets gets nearly All the pet hair out.

I have a Hoover Wind tunnel. Got it used at a thrift store. It works really good, but the hose doesn't suck well. (But it was used and only ten bucks) So time for a new one. I think I am going to go with another Wind Tunnel. I have a lot of pets and the hair (and hay from the guinea pigs) doesn't get stuck in the vacuum like it does in other brands. I have looked into dyson vacs, and read bad reviews on their vacs will the ball. And I just can not justify spending that much on a vac, no matter how good it may be. Leaving some hair in the carpet is not going to kill me.

I have 2 kirbys,

one has a transmission so it helps to push itself along:thumbsup. It's heavy:tongue but very powerful:clap. I bought it used for 200$ after some tough negotiations. It's a G-4 model, I think the current model but I'm not sure. Kirbys are expensive:hit but easy to get parts for and will last a lifetime:old. A long term investment.

I'm thinking a rainbow won't be on my list of ones to get. I don't want to have to deal with the nasty water! (I have witnessed how well they clean though!)

I'm wondering if a Kirby might be worth it. I know they are heavy, but I don't have stairs to deal with, so it might be doable. They are expensive though! A Bissel Pet looks good as well... there's SO MANY CHOICES!

Wow, must be the season for vacuums to die! Ours just did too, AND my parent's vacuum also! We both had Kenmores from Sears. Ours was about 3 years old, just happened so haven't taken it in yet to see if it can be fixed. We both bought them because they were the number one rated vacuum in Consumer Reports. I thought it was ok, it was about 300$, I don't think I loved it $300 worth. Maybe 150.....

I was talking to my mom about this and she said she wanted a kirby again, they had one all the time I was growing up. It did last for way over 20 years. But it was heavy. We are hoping to put in wood floors, does the bissell pet one do well on wood and tile??
