Suddenly a pet?

South Georgia. It's supposed to be rainy all this week. Which I'm hoping for so we have a break from this heat. I now understand why they turned this field into a subdivision. It will be raining on the highway less than a mile from our house but we turn into the subdivision and no rain at our house. Those poor crops, must have been DRY.

Oh you get that humid heat, huh? Blech. :p Lol I get the dry heat, watch the corn roll up and yeah, watch it rain across the road on the neighbors and not a drop here... Then when it does rain, there's a good possibility we're the ones who lose our wheat a week before harvest from hail...

I catch mine trying to dig holes under the coop to stay cool, so naturally, I am now paranoid that I need to keep holes filled up ;)

Oh yes. It's like stepping outside into someone's mouth sometimes. Lol. Afternoon showers seem to make it hotter. But when it's cloudy all week and rainy most of the day then we get cooled off. It's really humid already today. I've got to go dole out ice before we go to work.

The chickens are usually at the backdoor waiting on me. They are MIA. They're also NOT in the nest boxes. So now I have to go hunt them down. My husband said he shoveled more dirt into the hole they opened back up so they couldn't get in. If they got in again, we officially have subterranean chickens. Haha.

Yep. Subterranean chickens.

My son has a huge oak tree in front of his shop with a huge hollow at its base. He has to reach waaaay in to find the eggs. When he does his huge Orpington charges out at him. I told him it's a good thing she's in there - no snakes will be in there. He farms & there are a lot of rattlesnakes around.

Haha. My husband is afraid of snakes. We don't reach in there with our hands. We use my daughters kid sized garden rake to drag them out. Lol. I don't even care if there is a chicken in there. I'm not getting down in the dirt to even see if my arm is long enough to reach.

Well I would say you just have very intelligent chickens ha-ha... They found the perfect nesting box; private, cool... They evidently INSIST that you not renovate lol... Ma be you could fill the BACK part of the hole and leave them just a foot of a "cave", so they can still hide in there but you can reach the eggs? Doesnt look like anything short of quickcrete is going to stop them from redigging lol ;)
