Suddenly a pet?

My son has a huge oak tree in front of his shop with a huge hollow at its base. He has to reach waaaay in to find the eggs. When he does his huge Orpington charges out at him. I told him it's a good thing she's in there - no snakes will be in there. He farms & there are a lot of rattlesnakes around.

That's awesome lol; these birds manage to get the upper hand in the oddest ways! :D

This has been the funniest thread to read! Haha From an overly friendly hen to a subterranean den of eggs and burrowing chickens! I hope my flock turns out to be half as amusing! Congrats on all the eggs. I've got 10, 5, and 4 weekers so I have a long wait, but I'm so impatient to be where you are!

It's definitely an adventure. I don't think I've ever owned an animal that wasn't strange. Lol. Maybe it's me. The wait for eggs was long, but now we just expect eggs every day. We have 9 laying hens, one game hen that will eventually lay though not as well as the layers and our two silkie hens in quarantine are giving us an egg every other day. We've got two muscovy hens as well, though they may not lay until next spring. So it's going to be LONG wait for muscovy eggs.
