I've ordered a handful of Sultans (standard, white) which I am hoping to cross with an Ameraucana rooster. The rooster is blue Wheaton. The angle I'm hoping to go for is a fancier Easter egger type, with beards and muffs and possibly feathering on legs. I want to end up with sand coloured birds. I'm hoping over the generations of selection I can achieve this. Is there anyone out there who has crossed with Sultans before? Do they carry dominant genes that I should know about when crossing? Mixing a blue egg breed with a white egg breed, does that give a paler colour of blue?

I have a sultan mix also.

What is this baby mixed with? Do you have a picture of it now?? I’m trying to figure out which way to go in pairing my White Sultan as i only have one of the breed
I’m not sure what the momma was. It was given to me as a fertilized egg for my Cochin to hatch. I think she said ee.

I am not 100% certain, but I think Sultans are recessive white birds. This means the chicks of your cross will likely be closer to the color of the other parent. Depends on what the recessive white is hiding genetically, if anything. With dominant white such as in leghorns and paint colored birds, the offspring would be primarily white with colored flecks most likely. The bird in the photo above appears to be splash, I do not see any dominant white. You could get splash with recessive white though. Splash is part of blue/ black/splash genetics, otherwise known as BBS.😊

I’m just trying to figure out some of my pairings now! Lol too many different possibilities and I’m still somewhat new to this lol

Very interesting info. Thank you so much for it. Sadly what ever the parents are mine being a most likely a roo, I’ll have to rehome it.
But it was fun to watch my Cochin hatch it. 💕
