Hi all,
I have two bantam babies one is a mf d'uccle and the other is a white cochin. These are my first bantams (first chickens period along with the RIRs I also purchased). The little d'uccle is amazing. So full of it and affectionate and playful-just adorable. The little cochin, not so much. lol Anyway, I'm leaning toward keeping mostly the d'uccles as I love the chicken-ality and the colors. I also love the look of the sultan and wonder how they are as pets. I haven't seen any posts regarding them so I am curious. Does anyone have any experience to share on these lovely birds?
Thanks!

I had one once she was very tame

Cool thank you. Also what hatchery would be the best to get better quality d'uccle...? I say "better" because I can not find a breeder (which I would prefer to buy from) anywhere near me.

here is the sultan thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=272085 and the feather site on them http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGP/Sult/BRKSultan.html
If your looking for quality no hatchery is going to be "better". If your just looking for pets they are fine. See if you can find a show near you. That would be a good place to find a breeder in your area. Also check the "where am I? where are you" thread for your state https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewforum.php?id=26 and the d'uccle thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=269521 And the club site http://belgianduccle.org/ You may find people in those places that can help you find a breeder locally.

I have two sultans who are about 7 weeks old. They are fairly tame but are also pretty flighty. xD Mine are standards not bantams though. I assume temperaments don't vary much between types though.

One is really good. Nice full crest, lots are feathers on her legs, vulture hocks etc etc.
My other... not so much. She has all these things but not as full and her beak is a bit crooked(but she eat and drinks just fine.)
But they are both adorable and really fun to mess with. Mine have such soft feathers(except for now, they are brown because it keeps raining and they are all muddy).

I suggest you try and get some. Unless you are looking for something that is going to give you eggs. xD They are not egg layers really.

We have one sultan, standard size, which is still a fairly small chicken compared to our others. She is an odd little "duck". Always sleeps under a Cochins wing, and honks like a duck . She is fairly friendly but also a little flighty as well.
She is one of our best layers steadily producing about 5 eggs a week so far and but she has just started laying so it may slow down. She makes quite a production about where she wants to lay her eggs as well. Fussing and fluffing several different nest areas before she settles on some obscure spot.
Out of all of our birds she is the most entertaining to watch. She runs like Charlie Chaplin and is makes me laugh regularly.
I did trim around her eye feathers to give her a fair footing with the other chickens around meals and foraging. Otherwise they are practically blind from that heavy crest.
I'm finding out that although there are a lot of accuracies about chicken breeds, but that there are also a lot of individual differences in each bird.
Enjoy your Sultan!
