Sultan Thread

I have a Sultan roo with strange feathers on each wing. They poke out near the top of the wing where the wing attaches to the body. They are actually more than just feathers I think as they are strong like they have bone or cartilage in them. Any other Sultan owners experience similar in their flock members? This pic shows the one on his right side but he has two and they are more prominent today than when I first got him (this pic).
