Thanks very much! You know, I just set 7 eggs from the guy on
Ebay. Sadly, after he got his feedback, he hasn't answered my emails -- a just a question about genetics we had started before the auction ended. Out of the 7, I think only 2 are viable...I'm praying they are. From FL to WA is a long way and the PO must be praying for the lockout to end because the air sacs on most of the eggs were all over the place. Someone must have punted the box. Also, within 24 hours of setting the eggs, two began to weep. Old eggs?
I'll try to find Gamebirdsonly.
I'm really sorry to hear about your Black chick!! How old was it?
I spent a LOT of money last year on the
ebay eggs, not one ever hatched and at $40(I think) a batch .... I think I got at least 4 batches from him...some grew but none ever hatched
I have 4 in the hatcher right now from gamebirdsonly...and I have one black one that hatched last week(I think that one is from Aubrey). Some routes seem to be more harsh on eggs than others....I can get some from one region and get a good hatch and then get multiples from another region and get bad results
starting to think this breed is delicate for shipping hatching eggs
. Chicks will be the next step
Thanks, BBB. I did candle. They didn't look old, if anything they looked infertile. No smell. But no doubt not of the eggs they claim they pull 2-3 times a day. Maybe from 2 weeks ago! Your project sounds like it's going well. Too bad I'm a fan of LF size.
KFL73 -- think we're talking about the same person. The only one who sells Khaki & Dun eggs on
Ebay. Dang it! Not finding anyone else who sells eggs.
I used to be a purist -- Sumatra's need to be BLACK! Have a pair of lovely blacks. But I ended up with a Splash who looks like a Lavender and it got me thinking that it might be fun to breed her to a Khaki. Sigh...
Trying to stay hopeful, yet realistic about these eggs. Thanks for everyone's feedback and very interesting to know about the shipping routes. What if we start marking the boxes as "Live Reptile".
Or put in one of those little fake chirping eggs.
