Summer 2012 Granny "Square" Swap (sign ups closed)

Hey everyone! Happy 4th! I went to Walmart and got 3 of the colors, bone, plum and cranberry. They didn't have any of the other colors so I'm going to start with those. We're just hanging out close to home today, kinda nice! I can just puttz (sp?) around the house and the coop! And...crochet in between.

P.S. Henny is beautiful and so is her first egg! I'm waiting on 6 red stars and 2 white leghorns to start laying, they are 5 months old. Hopefully by the end of the month!

MaineGigi ~ Hanging out close to home is my favorite thing to do :) Have you found a pattern to use yet?

Kim, Alethea, and MaineGigi ~ Thanks :) I'll pass the compliments/congrats on to Henny--it'll make her happy!

Happy 4th everyone. It's cloudy here in the desert today. Wish it would rain..... Goody! eggs. What good chickens. I did another 12" square and also a 6" but haven't done a rectangle yet. I'm trying out different patterns and it's funny......I've been crocheting 60 years and never heard of crocheting around the post before but in the past two days have used patterns with them in them. We're having a quiet 4th at home. Company coming on Monday and then I'll have a couple of busy days.

DH & I also had a very low key day yesterday hanging out at home. DD is still away working at camp. I'd bounce from watching a movie w/ DH to going outside playing w/ all the peeps. I did get to a little crocheting as well.

Sunny~ Hope your unpacking is going well. Thinking of you!!!!

Beth~ That's fantastic that both Henny & Sam popped an egg out for you. They both look like nice shades of dark brown as well.

Cathy~ YAY!!!

You got some new yarn to play with. Can't wait to see what you create w/ them. Sounds like your peeps will be laying for you soon.

Kate~ How's your area? I hope everyone stayed safe on the 4th.

Betty~ I hope you get some rain. We had a teaser of one a few evenings ago, but nothing to write home about. I guess some is better than none. Still hot here and suppose to rise to 104 today and 105 tomorrow. I can't wait to see your squares. Isn't that something of not needing to use the around the post stitch until now. I've never used it either.

Alethea~ Yes Norman is still so beautiful. Mr Fru Fru! I'll have to wait to see what kind of personality he has since his hormones are kicking in to see if I can keep him. He is already chasing the other lil silkie cockerel.

Ok... back to the grind....

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a great 4th of July!!! Hopefully we will have internet service hooked up by this weekend so no more having to drive into town to get on the net. Wish us luck.

So far everyone has great squares! I have taken all mine apart. We have several new fires popping up but the one at Ruidoso is almost 90% contained, the one that has been burning since May and has burned over 500,000 acres is around 80% contained. We have lost in the neighborhood of 350 homes and over 300 other buildings. The one that started a week ago in Horse Canyon is n the edge of a major fire last year, and burned for a couple of days before being spotted. We have had many fires out here due to the fireworks, but no word on catching the arsonist.
Oh Dear! That is a terrible loss!!! I sure hope they catch the arsonist soon!!!
Kate~ I've taken my share apart as well and need to take a few more apart. I'm just slowly plugging along on a pattern I've done before to get me in the groove. The center of my unraveled attempted rectangle makes a nice bookmark.

I am so sorry about all the fires in your area. I hope they can become totally abolished soon.

Sunny~ Are you thinking of making one big afghan with ALL your different swap squares? I can't decided what I'll do with mine.
That's what I was thinking. I wanted to do a quarter panel afghan with each quarter using the different swap squares. I need a winter themed swap next though for it to work. Well since I haven't put them all together yet I'm not sure it will work but that's what I'm gonna try to do. :)
Here's the square I finished last night. Same pattern, but different twist on color combo.

Oooooh! Alethea is right, the jewel tones inside of the earth tones look very cool!!!

Smitty-That is very nice. I like the circles on circles. you've been making lots of squares. Is the queen of procrastination relinquishing her throne? I hope it works out between Norman and the other cockerel. He sure was a cute chick.

It is kind for you all to invite me to receive squares and I appreciate the reasons you gave. It really is best I don't do it. I need to keep my possessions minimal. I have lots of yarn and can make other things for organizations, etc. Please just accept that I'm making the squares for you and that it is enough to be in this fine circle of chicken-loving hookers.
How could we not accept such a gracious explanation!
We got out first egg!!!!!! Henny must have been feeling patriotic :) Happy 4th everybody!! Stay safe and cool!!

Ya Hoooo!!!

YEA!!! I get fireworks after all! We went to see the large show that the Nugget puts on every year and it was canceled due to high winds. At least that's what we think happened. We waited around til almost 10:30pm and nothing happened so we gave up and went home. Steve had to get up at 4:30 this morning so he is one pooped puppy today. We didn't get to bed until after midnight by the time we drove home and got animals fed, watered & put to bed.

Cool! Those are 3 of my favorite colors of yarn!!!

Your Red Stars or leghorns should give you an egg any day now. Both those breeds are early layers. My Red Stars layed by 5 months. Haven't had leghorns since I was a kid so I don't remember when they laid but I hear they are early layers as well.

Haven't done much unpacking but all the fencing, pens and coops are coming along very well! I am so happy with how much we have gotten done on them in the last two weeks. I was afraid all this work would take all summer but now it looks like we'll be done in another month.

Hi everyone. We had to go to Lancaster today to get DH's hearing aid fixed at Costco and do some shopping there also. I made it to Michaels and Joanne's and found the rest of the yarn I couldn't even get on line. I got the plum, cranberry and lavendar blue. Now I have a variety. I have about six or seven squares done already and each one is different. I've been trying out different patterns. Will try to take a picture of them but am in the middle of getting ready for DD and DGD's visit on Monday.

My faithful shepherd is getting worse. She's been doing pretty well since we put the wheelchair ramp in place for her to come up when she couldn't get up the steps but tonight it was more noticable that she is having a harder time getting up from a laying position. It won't be long now before I have to put her down but hope and pray she'll go in her sleep instead. She'll be 16 in Nov. She was born the same day as one of my grandsons. I think I told you before that she belonged to my second son who has passed away. He gave her to me about 10 years ago when he couldn't keep her when he had to move. She hasn't seen DDor DGD in several years. She may not recognize them since she can't see very well but she may remember them.

Still hot here and now it will stay this way until the end of summer. Thankfully not much wind.

Betty-Thank you for taking such good care of Jada Blue. A large dog doesn't goet to 16 unless someone really loves and cars for her/him. Have you thought of getting her a cart? We had a German shephard who couldn't walk and got her a cart. She had to get used to it, but once she did, she was a good driver, slowing down for curves and accelerating through them and she even chased around with another dog. Just a thought. It could be Jada Blue is too old for that. She is in my heart and mind, as are you.

Good Morning~

Sunny~ I totally forgot you didn't have internet hooked up yet. Bless your heart for having to drive into town to check in with us.
hugs.gif
I've missed you!!! So glad your flock facilities are coming together nicely. That's a huge job!!! Sounds like you gotten tons accomplished in the last 2 weeks. YAY!!! All the inside stuff can wait until you have your feathered babies situated.

Betty~ That's fantastic you found the rest of the yarn. I couldn't find the Royale Sparkle, so I still may order it from Caron. I can't wait to see a pic of your squares. Sorry about the heat. We experienced another hot record breaking day yesterday. These extreme temps are really hard on my flock. It's going to be another hot one today as well. I wonder if it is the new norm for us.
sad.png

I'm so sorry Jada Blue is having a hard time.
hugs.gif
I know how special she is to you esp since she belonged to your son that has passed. Alethea is so right that she wouldn't live this long without such loving care from you.

I have to run for an apt at the new place and no internet for me there as well, b/c DH won't be there for me to steal his phone to feed it off of there. I'll check in when he's able to meet me there or later tonight when I get home.

I hope everyone has a great day~
