Summer 2012 Granny "Square" Swap (sign ups closed)

More participants! Yeah!!!!! Welcome, welcome. We do have fun.

More wind here today but not as bad as yesterday. It was hot though. I had to replace a couple of stakes holding up my young pine trees and retrieve one of my cans that holds feed that got blown over and about 50 feet from the chicken pens. I did get my runner blocked and will take a photo tomorrow. My yarn should be here this week. I think Fed Ex tracking said the 21st. I'm anxious to see it and get started on my blocks. I've decided that the granny squares that Mary gave me because she didn't want them are going to go towards making a lap size afghan and donate it to our Masonic Comfort Station. The ladies there make pillows for cancer patients and heart surgery patients, afghans, and baby beanies for preemies that are donated to Cedar Sinai Hospital. All I need to do is find a common color that will go with them all and then just join them.

I should have the newsletter out tomorrow. I only have a couple of articles to add and then I'm finished and won't have another one to put out until the end of August. Yeah! more time to crochet.

Hey Swappers~

Happy First day of summer! It's sunny and in the upper 80's, but will climb in the 90's eventually today.

Betty & Sunny I hope that crazy wind dies down for both of you. Sunny that is terrible that you lost the base of a new coop to it and people have roof damage from it as well. That is some strong wind! Speaking of roofs, we have a roofers & adjusters coming to look at ours from the hail storm we had back in April. The area is crawling w/ roof companies from all over taking advantage of the work available.

Oh yea, Betty did you find out how your parakeet got out of your aviary? That is so great that your daughter will be moving closer.

Beth~ Another beauty of a square!

Anybody else have pics to share????

I've been crocheting, but not on the swap, but will get hookin' on it soon. As usual I have a few small unfinished projects I need to finish that I forgot about. As soon as I see another pattern that jumps out at me I will alternate between my projects, DD's afghan & the swap.

Betty-That is strange about your parakeet. I have no idea how it would get in and out. Here's a thought-Is it possible it was hiding in some foliage or something and was there all along? I met an Alexandrian parakeet named Ollie. His vocabulary was "Cookie", "Popcorn", and "What for?"

My newsletter is out and I am relieved. I had to add two extra pages this time and had to set up the pagesd and I hadn't done that before. I don't have to do another until around the middle of August.

No, my parakeet was out of the cage and I tried to catch it with the net but it flew up in a tree. That is one smart bird as I found the hole almost to the ground where some wire had come loose. It's fixed now and she is home but it was strange as usually when this happens I lose the bird. It never comes back.

I finally got my yarn. It came in yesterday. Now I can start deciding on patterns and trying a few. Yeah!!!!!!!! The colors are pretty.

YAY!!! You got your Newsletter out, found where your escape artist parakeet escaped & got your yarn! Sounds like it's time to celebrate. Yipppeeee!!!!!!

Glad your parakeet is home safe. I worked on my second square tonight. I need to add one more round to it for it to be complete. It's the same pattern as the one I posted before, but using Lav Blue, Perfect Plum, Bone and the Cafe' Latte. It's a pattern I've used often, but want to try to find a new one to try.

Here is another one. Is anyone else doing squares that aren't just flat--something that has a flower or something on it??

I still haven't decided but I love the raised patterns as well.

Woo hoo! I love getting yarn in the mail. :)
Quote: Can't wait to see those colors together! :D

Still moving!!! Told my hubby that it's time to have a huge garage sale to get rid of everything we aren't using regularly! I never, ever want to go through this kind of move again! We plan to buy when DH retires so I know another move is in our future. Hopefully the next time we only have 20% of what we have now to move. :/

Happy Friday Everyone~

Sunny~ I'm sorry you are still moving. I hate moving and would be in BIG trouble if we had to move right now. We have purged over the years, but have probably accumulated just as much to replace it. Both DH's & my parents have dumped stuff on us that we need to go through. It is going to take some time for me to go through each room of this house and every nook and cranny to organize. It overwhelms me at times. Just take a deep breath and you'll get through it.

Yep, can't wait to finish DD's big ole' blanket. I need to work on it more often. I'll post some pics soon in Crochet Chat on the other small projects I've been working on. I was too tired to finish the last edge on the 2nd square, but will post a pic of it later. I'm not real decided on a pattern either. I guess I'll plug along on the one I know until a new one to try pops out at me. I'd like to do 2 sets for the swap anyway IF possible.

Anyone have any more pics of their swap squares to share?????
