Summer 2012 Granny "Square" Swap (sign ups closed)

Awww Sunny, that's sweet! Thank you again for the hard work!
You're welcome Cathy! Is your Daughter still doing well?
Oh! More beautiful squares!! I can't wait to put mine together and snuggle under it on the couch!! And I can't wait to see all the other projects that are made. Thank you so much Sunny, for hosting this swap and making it so much fun!!
You are very welcome Beth!

The blocks are wonderful. Everyone did such a good job. It will be interesting to see how everyone puts them together.
Yes it will. Unfortunately I did not get them mailed today. DH and I thought it would only take 2 to 3 more hours to get the rest of them sorted and ready... I guess we are a lot slower than we think these days because 5 and 1/2 hours later we finally had to admit that we weren't going to make it before the PO closed. :( Well, I thought we might could squeeze in 5 mins before they closed but it wasn't worth it to try to push so hard. I try not to speed anywhere any more (I was terrible when I was younger). I'd rather just take my time and be safe.

The good news is that everything is now done and they are completely ready to go out first thing in the morning. And yes our PO is still open Saturdays here. I had to do quite a bit of rearranging to make things fit so don't be surprised if your stuff arrives in a different box. About half of the boxes were too small to fit the extra big squares plus Alethea's squares into (trust me, I tried!) so we had to switch out boxes for bigger ones.

Also when you all receive your squares there is a cardboard sandwich in each box (2 in Beth & Diana's and 2 in Jess & Kate's boxes, of course). Please don't throw them away no matter how much they look like trash! lol I couldn't find any nice cardboard stiff enough to pack your little surprises in so we just cut up a moving box then sandwiched them in and taped them shut. I hope you like them and your squares!

We have everything packed in the trunk so we can just leave early and get them there as soon as the PO opens. I do have 1 box going UPS but I think they are open til noon tomorrow too. Another box is going FedEx but I'm waiting on the postage to arrive here to mail that one off.

I am so sorry I didn't get them off today. I thought for sure it was a slam dunk when we got so much done last night. I didn't realize we had so many extra squares to distribute til I was mostly done so I had to go back and add more squares to all the boxes and then many were overflowing and just wouldn't shut! LOL I kinda thought this was pretty awesome though since you will be so happy when you see them all! Alethea made more than one set (you outdid yourself Alethea, you Sweetheart you!

) and so you are getting more back than you sent as well as some are just bigger, fatter squares (my 12" squares took up a lot of room but I only sent one per set back to you).

I am just so excited for you to see them and now so disappointed that it will be a little bit longer cause I couldn't seem to get my act together to get them all done quickly... Ah well! It's only a few more hours til they are on their way. I just need to be patient (not my strong suit but I'm trying). OK off to find out who sent their's via UPS cause DH ripped the labels off and after rearranging I can't tell which one came from UPS. I know it's in a post not too far back. I'll find it.

Thank you Sunny for your hard work. We don't mind waiting a little longer for them. I remember how it was when I hosted the last swap. It does get a little hectic especially when I had to get larger boxes. It was fun though. I am sure looking forward to receiving mine but I'll enjoy them more having to wait a little longer.

My grandson leaves Monday to go back to Afghanistan. He'll leave here Sunday as his plane leaves at 6:00am. It was nice having him here and the word is that my DD and her husbands house will close escrow sometime in the next three weeks. It looks like this one will go through. I know they're anxious to get back into their own home. I'm afraid my puppy will miss the other dogs though.

Thank you Betty! You are so sweet to be so patient with me. Well that's great news about the house!!! Sad that you have to say goodbye to your GS again though. :( I still remember how hard it was when we still had our Son-in-Law and our Nephew over there. So tough on everyone.

And you are very welcome! I have a new understanding of what you and Kim went through now. I think you have to experience it to appreciate the scope of the thing. But yes you are right, it has been a lot of fun! I was both relieved and sad to see them all get packed up. It was pretty cool having all these beautiful squares around! Wow there were a ton of beautiful squares filling this house just this morning! Still nice to have them ready to go. I'll feel even better once I know they are mailed off.

I figured out who sent theirs by what method and have it all written down now. Don't worry they will all come back the same way you sent them (although some are in a bigger box). I'll let you all know when I get back from our errands in town that they got off safely. The PO and UPS store are our first stops and then we have some other stuff to do so it may be awhile before we get back home and I can get online but I'll post as soon as I can. :)

Have a good night and a great weekend everyone!!!

The extra wait is no issue on my part either I can't start putting them together until I get my current squares finished and if they are at your house or in the mail I can't even be tempted!!!!!! lol lol lol You do have me nervous over rearranging the blocks in the fall swap and sending them out though, I'm hoping it will be simplified w/ just the one size blocks.

Thanks for all your time and work, it will be worth the wait I am SURE.

I'm sure the same sizes will make it much less confusing. I was so into the idea of matching different sizes together in the same afghan that I never thought about the extra work it made for sorting. Besides it wouldn't have been that big a deal if I hadn't messed up my back already the day I locked myself out. LOL I think I missed giving someone one of my 12" squares. When I got home there was one on the floor and I shouldn't have had any left. PM me if you didn't receive a 12" block from me (or 2 if you did 2 sets).

My only other advice is to not let anyone help you with the sorting. It just made it that much more confusing. The different block sizes also made the postage much higher sending these things back than receiving them. About half of the packages were $2 more going back. Yours was exactly the same though. That big box didn't weigh any more on the return trip. haha
Has the fall block sign ups been posted yet?
Yes Kassaundra is hosting one.

Kassaundra you need a link to that web page in your signature.

As you probably all gathered by now the blocks got off early this morning! Except the one of course. Let me know as you receive them.

Beth the UPS store was open too so yours went off this morning as well. Hope you all like them!

Wheeeeeee!! SO excited!!! Let me know how much money to send you to cover the extra cost. :)

Awww thanks Beth. That is very sweet! The total at UPS was $24.38. I can send you the original receipt since your's was the only box shipped through UPS if you would like. I think the amount paid is on the box as well. I'm pretty sure the FedEx box was the only one that didn't list the postage paid on it. Now I am gonna have to sit on my hands waiting for everyone to receive theirs.

No worries there it is just me and my husband, and he wouldn't volunteer for sure and would probably think of all kinds of other stuff that needed his attention more if I asked him to help. lol lol lol

Glad my postage was right, yes that box was obnoxious, but the only one I could find that I could fit everything in.

I didn't think about it, but I should have put it in my signature line, I put links on several threads including this one. The sign up deadline is past so I won't put it there this time, but if I host another one I will remember to do that.

Hahaha! My DH loves to help with everything! It is both endearing and irritating depending on the situation. The whole time I am trying to sort and think about what I need to be doing he is firing questions at me, many for the fifth or sixth time (I know he can't help it). Sigh... maybe next time I just need to wait until he's off doing something else then I can quietly go and get my work done.
