Summertime saddles

it looks like summer is already here (in AL) two days of near 80 degrees and with the humidity, you definitely feel the heat

. I have saddles on a few of our roos "favorite" girls and there are several more needing them. I had sewn the originals out of denim, because I thought they would need that extra tough fabric to protect their backs. But now that I remember what summertime in the South will be like, I'm wondering if I should switch them all to something more breathable. And if so, does anyone have suggestions for what fabrics do well with rooster nails, spurs and mud?
 
Those are a little lighter than sports weight, and they usally are a poly blend. 100% cotton would be more "breathable" in the hot, humid summer.
