The eggs are in the hatcher. I repeat the eggs are in the hatcher.
I'm as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. I hope I can pull this off.
The hatch box has been running a bit warm. I'm hoping it's due to the warmer weather. The house was heated up a bit today. I've got the vents clear and pulled the heat chamber lid open a smidgen. It's cooling by a tenth of a degree per half hour. I've been pacing back and forth like a nervous father all evening. First-time is always the hardest.
I want to thank Ivywoods for her and her husband's warm hospitality. Alex and I really enjoyed the barn-yard tour. It's a great place you have there. I'm anxious to see that poultry barn go up soon.
Your parrot is awesome too.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I'll be sure to post my progress. I hope it's a good trip!
The dark eggs are Black Copper Marans and the white ones are Golden Lakenvelders. I picked these up from Ivywoods yesterday in Hiawatha.
Very sweet couple who welcomed my daughter and I with warm hospitality. They have quite the set up there. Took the nickel tour of their place and it was awesome.

I have Partridge Chantes, and I'm working on Columbian and Black. It's just at the beginning of those projects, though. They lay okay for the most part, but they go broody worse than Silkies and bantam Cochins combined!!
What do all of you do when you hatch all those eggs? Why do people do this, to increase their flocks or are they doing it to get aspecific look or why? What do they do with all the roosters that hatch? Just curious and trying to learn. Can you do this all year long? Do you incubate in your house and keep them inside for a period of time?

Some I grow out to add to my breeding flocks....others I sell to help pay the feed bill. I sell my excess roosters at the local poultry auction. I used to hatch year round, but dpn't so much anymore. I hatch in my basement and depending on the time of year and the temps they stay in the house for a couple of weeks or go out to brooders outside.
And so it begins, Saturday night I had to join my 2 flocks into one. Now that my ducks are old enough to be outside I needed a coop for them so I had to use my smaller coop that I kept 7 birds in already. Seeing the ducks are so messy I moved my birds with our larger flock. Well the stress of now another rooster in with a flock of near 40 birds the stress level was really high and not to mention the heat in the coop yesterday. We ended up losing one leghorn cuz she sat in her nest all day and got up for nothing. I think she got WAY to hot and didnt drink any water
Our Roosters Blane and Booster have been around each other since we got them but never have they lived in one coop. I can only guess what that started when Blane woke up to see Booster standing in the room. We also have 2 other cockerels that are in the room but they dont seem to want to fight at this age. I have installed 3 fans to help with cooling. 1 that will pull outside air in and 2 that will help air flow around the coop. Our coop is 12' X 25' with a 12' X 16' run. The run needs a cover and will get one tonight when I get home. They have 20 gallons of water and 4 waters so if they can get along well enough they should make it I pray!!.
Does anyone need a little barred rock roo? I think he is about 4-5ish weeks old. Just starting to look around to find him a new home outside the city limits before he decides to start crowing.
