Sounds great do you have hatching eggs or chicks And to Katy I love the look of Wheaten Marans are their eggs that dark brown chocolate colored. I just want one or 2 hens of JG just for the eggs I really need a couple of my hens to go broody I think this year might be hatching eggs and next year try some of my own eggs. I have to be careful I am at my max for chickens but trying for the egg basket I want and stay under the radar.

Here's a picture from last year.....I haven't got any newer ones, but I can take one if you want.....they look the same.

Ok so who you got laying those really dark eggs? They look like my welsummer eggs but betting they are one of the Marans. I have welsummers now and think that I will hatch some eggs from them and other birds this summer but would like to replace my roo in the future with a Maran roo.

I should have. Let me know when you've got a broody.

Those are lovely, Katy!

My FBCM lay about the same shade, some a bit darker.

Schellie, I have eggs and chicks, you'll just have to check with me when you're ready- I don't generally sell anything but straight run, though.

I'm heavy on the chicks right now, but have to do an inventory in about a week to see what I'll be keeping. I may wait a bit longer on some of them before thinning.

Mike, don't get rid of your Wellie roo- a Marans roo won't give you darker laying offspring usually because the egg melanizers don't work that way- in fact even mixing different lines of Marans can leave you with a lighter egg than either parent, because of the mix.

These are the only new pics I have. It has been cold and rainy for the last couple of days and I haven't wanted to do another "photo shoot."

I agree and thanks for the advice. My wellie eggs are as dark as the WMs I want some dark eggs every year Just wondering what the influance is on other birds, Any TMI to discuss here. I do really like my wellies though they tend to be a bit dramatic.
