Heya!

You can get a baby pool or some shallow thing for them to use as a foot bath- they'll just walk through shallow water and keep a bit cooler that way. Also, this is the time of year to start using extra waterers in exactly the opposite way you did during the winter:

Fill a waterer 75% and put it in the freezer. Top it off when frozen solid and put out for cool water all day. In the winter, you bring them in and take out warm water in the morning, or keep a spare for taking out un the morning and pull the frozen ones in to thaw all day.

Sorry about your girl- that stinks.

I think it was Taz that mentioned CW feed on the other thread. I just wanted to thank you. I went in to look around and ended up getting their 20% layer pellets and my girls love it. So far they beat Purina hands down. I only paid 12.10 for a 50# bag. That is about 2.00 per bag I save and it has animal protein in it! So once again thank you!!!

Those are great tips Renee. Something else I do (similar to what you do freezing the water bowls), is to fill a gallon milk container 80-90% full of water and freeze that. For my waterers, I use the 3-gallon black rubber bowls so every day in the summer, around 2pm, I take the milk container out of the freezer and just put it, lock, stock and barrel, into the water bowl. It cools the water down and because it is a solid block of ice, it keeps it cool for the rest of the day. After they've roosted for the night, I bring it in, wash off the outside and put it back in the freezer for the next day. That worked really well for me and the girls soon recognized the ice block headed their way and seemed to really appreciate having the cool water to drink.

You are welcome! I really like it.

ETA:

I went today and the 20% pellets were 12.90 and the chick starter was 13.75 (Manna Pro)

Maybe they charged me wrong or maybe I looked at the reciept wrong but I thought they charged me 12.10. Either way it is a good deal!

I was just saying because the prices can fluctuate. Yes it is a good deal.

Mine loved the frozen water container today (thanks ChooksChick), and the strawberries I chopped up lastnight and froze... I added it to their cold yogurt!
