Sunflower Chickens

I'd like to see how some of you are set up for ducks. I have to get my little ones out of my workshop before too long. They are gonna get cramped in that coop that didn't seem nearly so small with my chicks. UGH!!

I've asked before but......of what is available from Purina and Nutrena what feed is best for young ducklings?

I've kinda got the flower bug too (mother's a florist)! I finally got the last of our flowerbeds completed lastnight, we've had to remove 7 inches of quartz landscaping rock from it and fill it with new soil! Boy is miracle grow proud of their garden soil, $5 a bag sure seems steep after you have to by 20 of them!

I feel exactly the same way!! It's amazing how many wonderful folks there are out in the world, but when you meet someone and it just CLICKS it's a much smaller world! I feel like it has worked that way more times than is reasonable on BYC, and now I have another soul sister to feel blessed for!

I'm really a bad influence about plants and chickens...you're just lucky we weren't anywhere near MyABCs3's house, where my favorite garden center is...complete with chickens!!!

We MUST have another intentional get-together and I'm thinking maybe actually make a Sunflower Chickenstock! Invite the MO, OK and NE peeps?
That would be just fun!!

Kansasboy - glad the rocks are gone...I'm sure whoever put them in thought they were a great idea at the time!

I'm up for chickenstock! I live between Lawrence and Baldwin where there is a "green" nursery called Vinland Valley Nursery. They are truly green - no pesticides, no weed killers, etc. And yes, they are chicken friendly. On the weekdays when you visit, you can catch their flock free ranging. Would just love to met some of you!

Okay, where is MyABCs3's house and near what garden center?? I haven't bought ANY plants yet, for the garden or otherwise.
I'd sure be interested in meeting some BYC peeps. Thought about that today when I was coming into Lawrence from the East on 10. Wondered where that espresso shop was where you first met. Now that I'm feeling better and freed up more time I'd love to get together.

We originally met at Z's right at that first light on K-!0. It's far too small for any more than the 4 of us at the first meeting. We need to find a place we can chat and BBQ or something. I bet Vinland Valley Nursery would love to host something like that, and they have picnic tables and a gathering area and everything. Amy and Doug are wonderful people. We should look at some late summer dates so everyone can plan for it...or maybe we should be more impromptu?

CarolAnn, next time you are coming in, you need to give me a buzz! At least a few of us could drop everything and have lunch!

I'll be heading in to Overland Park today, and it looks like a good day to do it...all cloudy and horrible looking...I pray that means that Katy got a good, gentle soaking!!

We got about .10 ......hopefully tho we'll get something in the next day or so. It wasn't very far east of us on the radar.....just not here. We need a "toad strangler" to get any water in the ponds in the pastures.

A get together at a nursery? Now you are talking my language. I would love to do that... but spring at a nursery is better than late summer at a nursery, don't you think? I'm all for it, BUT I work such crazy hours it's hard for me to get away, and I work every weekend. It would probably have to be a Saturday morning in order for me to make it and then get back to work. A brunch or early lunch would work, too.

I wonder how far it is from Hiawatha to Vinland Valley. It doesn't come up on mapquest.

That is a new one for me. It that a lot of rain?

That's a lot of rain.

Katy must be from my neck of the woods because that's what we always called a big rain, too!

Yep...that's a big rain with lots of run-off.

Our crops and grass need a soaker, but the ponds need something more.
