Sunflower Chickens

Good Morning! Well, it is overcast here, but no rain over night. Katy, hope you got more than a 1/4" by now! Been researching here on BYC about muddy runs...going to go out and do some work this morning. I think the girls have just packed down some spots so hard that the soil doesn't absorb the water and it pools? Also have to start arranging a grow out area for the ameracauna chicks, not used to having that many grow out at once....

I got over to the sale in Overbrook this morning. I love the drive over from Ottawa. My thanks to the gentleman who allowed me to ask my many questions about ducks a feed. He was very helpful, and patient with my repeat questions. I think I've been stressing over these ducklings a tad more than I should. I took my camera and think I showed my duckling pics to everyone who had ducks, to try and determine the breeds. I am hopeful I got at least one of the breeds I wanted. Sooner or later I'll post them here to see what you other duckie people have to say.

It's a beautiful day in my "neighborhood" so to speak. Our nearest neighbors are 1/8 mi away. Daughter and her family are 1/4 mi away, and SCHOOL IS OUT!!!

Oh... my husband saw the funnel cloud from the house. It was not on the ground, but still up in the air. He saw it before it was reported. They announced it on the radio about 3-4 minutes later. I didn't see it. I was at work.

I'm just south of Seneca a few miles (@ the in-laws) and we still haven't gotten a drop of rain! Sure is some pretty lightning to the east!

Sounds like everyone here is okay after the storms last night. The light wind we had all day never picked up and we didn't get a drop of rain. So thankful after having so much rain last week.

Okay, I think one of my hens has gone broody. She's not wanting to leave the nest and has tried to "peck my husband to death" (his words) when he gathered the eggs two days in a row. I gotten the eggs from under her, just two each day and then nothing yesterday or today. I don't know what to expect or do about this. If I can get my ducks place outside situated soon I'd could fix her a place in the coop where the ducks are now, so she could be alone. I have no idea what to do. Do I give her some eggs to sit on? should I candle them, and what the heck do I look for. I haven't a clue. I'd love to experience one of my girls (she just over a yr old) hatching some chicks, although I don't really want/need anymore chickens. She'd have to be moved because I'd be scared for her to try and raise babies in the coop she's in with 24 other chickens. She's pretty much been in the one nest day and night (whenever I've checked), so I don't know if she's even gotten out to eat and drink? Well yesterday I took her out of the nest and set her on the coop floor. She puffs up full and runs around the run like she's running for her life, and running only makes some of the other girls chase her. Does broodiness cause them to stop laying? That doesn't make sense, cause I'd think she'd be saving up her own eggs to hatch. I need help please!!

Got the trio settled in! I have to get another house for them--- I moved my banties out and the GL in--- thinking since the GL's were smaller than the Buckeyes that this little house would work for the GLs---but the roo is having to crouch just a tidge and when he tries to get up in to the "bunk" area ---he bumps his head--- have to get him a helmet! Other than that the two hens are still cranking out eggs---never missed a beat!!!! Very pretty birds!

Where do you get your goat panels from? Farm and Home?
