supper bowl…

And today they've had something new in their supper-bowl: Wild Lettuce - Lactuca virosa. It is growing wild on the cliff over that little creek at the edge of my property. 20181107_163447.jpg
I noticed that my ducks were craving for something green and when i saw those lush green leafs after brooming my 100 mile long driveway (it really feels like this!) i decided to harvest some and offer to the ducks. I was able to keep all of my fingers…
So in the evening i made the tour down to the creek and harvested more leaves and add them to today's supper bowl: I started the bowl with a generous layer of mealworms, garnished with over-ripened seedless grapes, covered with whole wheat cereals (spoiled by nasty corn beetles), covered with the cut wild lettuce leaves and some scratch grain sprinkled on top.

It looks a bit like a salad, sprinkled with Parmesan cheese! All the time i had to watch over my shoulders because hungry predators were stalking me:

Finally the feast began:

I still have all nine fingers…
Just kidding! ;)

UMMMM!!! My ducks eat Purina all flock feed(with niacin and probiotic powder added by me :) ) They get meal worms and cat food.....as a treat!
I'm having problems with them, eating those industrial produced feeds. During the summer they stuffed themselves with insects, greens and seeds from their pasture and let the feed in the feeder spoil. Now there are almost no insects on what's left of the pasture and they are really unhappy when they only get meat-bird crumbles; plus what comes out of the duck at the other end looks unhealthy and stinks. So as long as i can find some greens somewhere on my property i will offer those to them and replace the insects with some meal worms.

My 3 ducks get a few small handfuls of either peas or corn and maybe a cup of chopped kale - as their snack! They eat Flock Raiser crumble on and off all day and always seem hungry, but they turn their noses up at most everything else I’ve tried to feed them. I’d welcome suggestions - here’s what I’ve tried and their reactions:
My ducks are actually picky eaters.

Minnows - gulped down
Shrimp - gulped down
Peas - gulped down but now just meh, I guess I’ll eat them.
Corn - same as peas
Banana - wouldn’t touch
Apple - wouldn’t touch
Sweet peppers - nibbled one or two pieces
Kale - I guess I’ll eat it
Cracked corn - nibbled at
5 grain scratch seed - meh, not interested

I’ve tried the Quack Snacks, too and only one duck of the three will eat a couple of them.

Mine all eat Purina Flock Raiser, and they all like it. Of course I also give them treats, like lettuce, meal worms, and occasionally some other insects.

Love the supper bowls!
My Call ducks cant free range where I live so I made them "salad suppers"
Out of dandelion greens, grass and clover almost every night all summer.
Greens are getting scarce now and boy are they ticked off at me. :lau I feed nutrena all flock free choice. . oyster shell on the side.
Occasionally I give them peas, meal worms, and a treat called ultra kibble that's sort of like cat food but formulated for birds.
They love dandelion greens floated in water the best.

Mine discovered from where those red tasty balls (tomatoes) were coming from and ate the whole plants! Leafs, stems, flowers and green tomatoes, even digging out the plats to eat the roots…

Oh dear! And they say tomato plants are poisonous
Guess the ducks didn't get that memo:gig
