Did I miss something?!
Further up I posted. Last night I caught a wild mallard boy mate one of my girls
I didn’t look close just thought it was one of my boys till I saw him fly away to the house 2 doors down into their pond
Counted all my ducks and realized that wasn’t my drake
I live in a small town
Neighbours pond is not huge just a koi fish pond

Today there was a Momma Mallard taking her newborn babies to the pond. One of our buses could not get stopped in time and hit the next to last baby. Then the car behind her not seeing them hit another one. The Father Mallard kept flying around the two dead babies, circling them wanting them to get up and join the others. Momma duck stood there and kept squacking at them trying to revive them. The bus driver cried and I would have too if I saw it and I actually am as I am telling this. It's amazing how people can think they are just Ducks. It gave my fellow drivers a new perspective of how they really are caring and smart animals and not just ducks. Now maybe they can understand more why I LOVE MY DUCKS!
This is such a heartbreaking story :(

Omg I thought that the drake actually took off with your hen :lau

Poor mama, that is heartbreaking.
Birds are truly very clever and very loving animals.
It happens commonly to doves and pigeons, too. Often one gets run over and the mate refuses to leave, so gets hit as well. Heartbreaking.
If I ever see a dead pigeon in the road, with another by it, I'm going to move the dead one away to prevent the live one getting hurt. Or just get rid of it, so that it's mate can leave. It's so sad seeing them mourn like that, oblivious to the danger they're in. Or they simply don't care about the danger anymore. :(
I used to have Rabbits before I got my Ducks. They were fenced in but allowed to free range in my yard. A neighbors big dog jumped my fence and killed my Buck. It's mate didn't last but a week because it refused to eat or drink and just mourned itself to death. Animals are a lot like humans when it comes to death. They mourn and miss their family and friends just like we do. How special they are.

Aww :(, yesterday at the pond we pass by everyday on our way home from school, we were looking at the geese and Muscovies as we drove by and my dad saw a gosling! So he slowed down for my and my sister spilled her drink so we pulled over. Then because I mentioned that the gosling was near the road my dad and one of my sisters got out to steer them closer to the water. They took pics and we think the gosling was “fresh out the womb” lol because there were 2 other eggs nearby.

Thanks for getting the gosling away from the road. I always honk my bus horn whenever they are trying to cross and the buses are coming. They realize danger and get back. The pictures were great, thanks for sharing and good luck on your exam.

I said I would, and so I shall, I have created a safe space for duck keepers!
I know how hard it can be, none of your non poultry friends would understand- the struggle of keeping ducks.

Ducks can be very rude and disrespectful creatures. Full of sass, full of wrath.
So welcome to the place where you can rant, and receive support!
