Update on broody mom
She has not been back out since this morning
She won’t let me close enough to listen for peeps and I don’t want to get her upset so I’m keeping my distance
Haven’t seen a little one pop up yet
I’m hoping by morning I will see some babies

I was the same way with my Mallard Momma. She finally got up and showed me two while she was working on the egg that had the little half Black Swedish Call duck in it. It hatched the following day along with another Mallard Duckling. When they are frightened they will sometimes stomp their feet to call their babies under them so I too stayed my distance while watching her so that none of her babies got hurt. At least that is what I had always heard.

Best to not upset one’s that want you to stay back
My pekin was fine with me around
I could pet her and she would let me see the eggs ect
But this mom has not been handled much and says no way

So... I had never hatched ducks before this time around.... In which I found out my coop does not have the humidity needed to hatch ducks... So my ducklings needed help and Neosporin due to shrink wrapping. My ducklings took longer than chicks to hatch.. by a lot.

Or maybe my experience was just super screwed up...

I will say the ducklings were also louder than I thought they would be.

Heh. I've bought ducklings before, I was prepared for the adorable-ness of the ducktators.
Though these seem less skittish than the ones I bought. ... No fear of me, at all...

What type are they? My Momma Mallard was only 9 months old when she decided to go broody for the first time and hatched out 11 ducklings and they were all just fine. Her only problems is she throws of males so there were 9 drakes and 2 Hens! They all got rehomed though.

She may not actually be mom up any of the eggs.
I was leaving eggs in hopes for her older sister to go broody as she had some issues for 5 months and stopping her from laying may have helped. But this girl decided to sit instead
She is pekin x khaki
But babies could be pekin , khaki ,or Swedish
There was a bunch of eggs in there all started. I didn’t realize she was sitting for a few days so I removed a bunch at day 2

Update
All 6 eggs are alive and all external pips
Mom did come off this morning quickly but is back on the eggs
I didn’t want to take much time checking them but did hear peeps from one
I have never been so stressed at hatch time

I love this! I am abused everyday by my male Pekin. I have bruises up and down my arms! He wakes up and gets out of his cage to bite me. He bites me if I take my female out of the pool he comes running at me crazy...lol I love them so much!
