What should I do if a duck loses a toenail? And should I regularly be cutting them? I just came home from school, and apparently the ducks have been escaping the brooder all day. They’ve been jumping on my bed and I found blood on my bed so I checked the ducks and one of figgys toenailed is gone. There’s blood on it.

Ouch. Dang ducks!

Not much you can do, sadly. You can put some ointment on it, and if it's still bleeding press some squashed up yarrow leaves to it. That's do the trick in a second!

Also is blackberry like this because of an egg? Or do you think she ate something weird? I think the poop to the right of her is hers. Now she’s standing like this and panting sometimes. And just any ointment? Or something specific

She might be trying to pass an egg. I don't have any experience with being egg bound, thankfully and knocks in wood but others do.

If you have coconut oil, you can put some of that on as it has antibiotic properties. You can make a basic ointment for chapped lips and minor cuts with just bees' wax and coconut oil, too. Super easy and great for the little things.

I'm currently infusing olive oil with yarrow leaves and flowers, plantain leaves, and mullein flowers for a first aid salve to be made soon.

Yeah, I think it’s either that or she ate something that was in my room when they were escaping all day. I don’t know if it’s just her being normal but she’s also drinking lots of water. (I did give them new water a few hours ago though)

So I have coconut oil and I think ointment for figgy. How do I figure out whether she swallowed something or has an egg stuck? Or maybe she ate too many wood shavings. Also how do I find where her egg laying place is? I tried parting her feathers, but they all have really fluffy butts and lots of down like feathers under their normal ones. I also haven’t gotten another egg since the day they kept escaping so it could be the egg thing or that they’re new layers.

I was looking up what to do, and one of the things said to try a warm bath and give her calcium gluconate or tums if you don’t have it. So should I just give her a warm bath and crushed up tums in her water? I just saw her poop though so she might have just eaten something weird or is being weird. Do you think I can completely rule her being egg bound out.

Those back dew claws are terrible
Many of my birds have lost one here and there

It happens, my girls have both lost their back nails, unfortunately it's very easy for them to catch.
It is possible to trim them if they get too long but in my experience it's more an "if needed as needed" kind of thing, not routine. They do tend to file down on their own to an extent, the back ones just tend not to as much.
