Support Group for Abused Duck Keepers

I always thought it was neat how they get used to routine!
I come out at dusk to put everyone into the coop at night and I always say, "Go night night!" as I go through the fence. They all line up and start heading towards their house before I even make my way towards them.
My ducks have been like that for a few months now, since I got their sleeping arrangements sorted.

My ditsy special needs pekin always sleeps in a dog crate as he seems to annoy the muscovies -- probably by chattering loudly at night -- and they can be mean to him. He loves his dog crate. His bonded buddy muscovy drake sleeps atop the dog crate from choice. I found I had to partition off the floor to separate the other two muscovy that take it in turn to be mean to each other. Now peace reigns, and the ducks either take themselves down to their door or come up and wait by my back door at bedtime, then follow me down. Daffy, muscovy, comes in first -- he always wants attention -- and I scoot him into his compartment. Ping, pekin, comes in next and straight into his dog crate. The other two, muscovies, go in as I go out: they eat their supper on the floor and then bonded muscovy, O Pato, jumps up on the dog crate. Butter generally stays on the floor but when it's cold, gets up with O Pato -- I presume to keep warm.

I close the door and safely lock it with a heavy padlock and cross bars against predators -- a fox has tried to get in at night. I go back to the house, breathing a sigh of relief as they are safe while locked up at night.

Well I was wondering how trading my 4 huge drakes for 4 small Call Drakes would work out with my 9 bigger Hens. I want to share how it's going. Today when I let them into the grassy pen while doing duck chores I saw my 4 little Call Drakes that walk around like they are part of the Mafia chasing one of my Khaki Campbell Hens. She was running and the chase was on. All four of them against one. All of a sudden one of my big Rouen Hens started chasing the Mafia group of little gangsters and they decided it was too much for them and they left my Khaki Campbell girl alone. It was funny to see. I was glad that Tinker Bell the Rouen was looking out for her lady friend and not letting her get outnumbered. The girls are all in good shape and not being torn up like they did before with the big drakes. So far all is well.

No abuse for me today!
But my poor Dougie has been abused dreadfully!
She was pancaked, flirting with Sprightly. Head out, whole thing.
Sprightly not only ignored and rejected her, but STOMPED on her head on the way past!
Stomped the side of her face, into the mud! :lau
Poor Dougie was SHOCKED!
I was briefly worried about her neck bending like that, but she was fine.
I quickly drew the sight.

Dignity was lost. And I am shocked by Spright's behaviour. SHOCKED :gig

Im laughing and loving the picture. I agree they should allow to symbols to be put!

I found out how to stop Daffy biting my legs. He's my tightly bonded muscovy boy that bites me to demand attention. And perhaps because he is angry that I leave him to sleep in the shed with "ducks". He thinks he should live in the house with me.

Well I just got back from visiting my mother in England, and I went to hang out with the boys in the garden. The biting my legs began straight away even though I was sitting on a tub and talking to them all. I picked Daffy up and stood him on my lap. The biting stopped and it was back to nibbly nibbly. So it seems Daffy wants to be at my height and doesn't like me towering over him, even sitting with him at ground height isn't enough. I am so surprised as he is such a big lump of duckiness that I have avoided picking him up as I thought it would be very uncomfortable. The other boys are happy just to sit on the grass near by

Such Pretty Ducks!!! I am glad that you made it back safe and I am sure that your Ducks missed you!!! My Mallards are hatching out today as I saw at least three of them when she shifted and let me see. I am not disturbing the nest at this time as I don't want her to stomp her feet at the disturbance and hurt them.
