What happened ?
Everyone but my dad went to visit my family for Christmas for a week and a half, and we got back last night. Since the coop is still being built I walked into my room and saw figgy by herself in their area. I thought maybe the other two escaped into my room because my dad might have put the barrier back wrong, but I didn’t see them. So I walked over and asked my mom where they were, and she said that blackberry and mango had gotten sick a few days ago :hit . She said that while we were gone they had passed away. Now I think we’re planning on getting more ducklings to keep her company since she’s alone, but I don’t really know since it was late last night. Does anyone have breed recommendations ? I don’t know how many we might get. I’m going to ask my dad to autopsy them if he still has them once he wakes up. I hope figgy is fine and that it’s just a coincidence that it happened around the same time and is from a stuck egg or something :hit

Im so sorry.

My khaki campbells won't eat treats, they aren't friendly any tips on making them friendly?
Be patient
Everyday give a little treat
Meal worms, peas , cut up fruits
Just a little bit
Offer it in your hand then throw a few pieces
Find what treats they love and keep trying
I have some that have gone around eventually
But with 19 of them food doesn’t stay in my hand long enough gor my shy ones 😆

See if you can find 1-2 around the same age
You will need to do a see no touch for 1-2 weeks after 1 week start to let them out supervised giving treats ect. This helps distract them
You should ask your patents what symptoms they had
Was there a chance feed got wet then mouldy ? If so they can get sick and die
It happens fast in 24 hours wet feed can mould abc ducks will eat it not knowing
They are also like vacuums and eat anything including unsafe things
No water with feed can cause issues
To warm or to cold ect
Find out as much as you can so we can help to figure out what may have happened

I don’t know, I’ll ask. There was mold at the bottom of the old bag, but we threw it away when we saw it. That was like 3 weeks ago. Do you know anything about an import restriction on ducks in FL by the USDA?

Dasher update -
As I posted on Christmas dasher had a soft shell
She pooped out a little of it and the next morning I found the rest outside with only the whites of an egg with no yolk
I assumed she just made a yolk less egg
But on Saturday she had a second soft shell
The yolk and whites were on the ground and the soft shell was in the water sled they use to bath in ( winter bathing )
She was walking like she had something stuck inside her
Mucus was draining out of her vent and she was going off on her own
I again brought her in and bathed her and gave her calcium
I called my vets office but her vet was on holidays
Luckily she keeps me supplied with antibiotics and medicam
My fear was that first egg did break inside of her
I started her on the clavamox I had on hand
By Monday evening I could see she was so much better
She was still walking a bit slow but no more mucus coming out
Yesterday she was back to running with the flock
Her tail is back up like normal , walking is normal , no more mucus
Overall back to normal
Her eggs are hard shell again but still paper thin
I’m now thinking maybe a D issue as you need D to absorb calcium
She was given Lupron shots last April to stop her from egg laying while we got her aspergillosis fixed
She never stopped laying eggs but they became very thin shelled and would break just by picking them up
I read up this week and that hormone can give vitamin D issues
Maybe that’s been the issue with her eggs
We are going for a check up this morning with her vet
I’m going to get her to test her D levels
I’m so thankful my vet keeps me supplied with meds at home
I’m also thankful I’m so hands on with my crew that I knew something wasn’t right with her
She has to be on this antibiotic till Sunday but it’s definitely working :)
I added a picture of soft shell egg #2 that I found and her poo that was Full of mucus
The actual soft shell itself was in the red sled
