I agree. If you can't find any of them, they didn't freeze to death, and the rooster didn't kill them. There'd be carcasses if either of those happened. A rooster usually is protective of a hen and chicks. At least mine have been.

We had a surprise batch of chicks 10 days ago. It is getting into the 20s at night here. They have been fine. Mama keeps them warm and protects them from the other chickens. We did lose one--I think to our barn cat.
