surprise special from Ideal 7 week updated pictures

This order will put me at 20 so if I want more I'm either going to have to expand or give some away.

I'm still new to chickens, and i should have heeded a warning from a friend before I got any. She told me they were addicting. They sure are fun!!

I've ordered the surprise special pullets from Ideal twice.

The first time I ordered 12 and I got 2 New Hampshire Reds (1 turned out to be a roo), 3 Black Austrolorps (1 accidental roo), 4 Production Red, 3 Silver Laced Wyandotte and 8 Cochin packing peanuts (all roos).

The second time, I ordered 25 and I got a much greater mix. Three didn't make it, but the 22 that survived are all pullets, breeds as follows:

1 Silver Laced Wyandotte
4 Black Sex Links
4 Production Red
3 ISA Brown
1 Easter Egger
1 Light Brahma
1 Buff Brahma
1 Partridge Rock
1 Buff Rock
3 Buff Orpington
1 Silver Spangled Hamburg
1 Black Jersey Giant

They didn't mark the breeds on either of my order and it was both fun and frustrating trying to figure out what I got.

I'm very happy with the variety. Everyone who sees them comments how they didn't know chickens come in so many different colors.

wow, that's quite a variety!! did you order at different times of the year? I wonder if they have more variety left over at different times

Yes, the first bunch I ordered last September, so they probably were sold out of a lot of the breeds. The second bunch I ordered this February before the main spring rush. I'm glad I ordered those when I did since they were almost completely sold out of everything by mid-March.

I'm assuming that on the yellow ones, you have to just wait until they are a little bigger to determine what breed they are? My research is not going well but I'm guessing buff orpingtons?

so far ive not recieved mine

which means 3 days in usps

also means alot of dead chicks for sure

so far not impressed with ideal poultry at all

just called post office and called ideal

post office said nothing yet there

and ideal says well wait to see if they get 2nd mail delivery

well none on 2nd mail truck so guess ill lose quite a few(half or better) by the time they get here

learned a lesson today about ideal
